Frustrating about DLCS

It just takes sooo long to get supporting materials for this game. They didnt release the Xbox then say in 6 months we will get a game out then in another 6 months you may get another.

My buddy who is usually the DM likes to stick with core material but if there is almost no core material then where do you go.

Im getting the two books that Cam uses for his games (the Complete Warrior and the Miniatures Handbook) but it is still a tad annoying so I though that I would voice my groups frustrations.

Id give my left you know what for some Minotaur flavor (including PrC's and weapons and the such) but Im sure if that does come out we will be playing DnD 5.0 or something, hehe.

I'm not quite sure I follow your question. Are you frustrated that there are not more supporting materials for the DLCS? Are you wondering what non-DL products to use in DL games? Or are you referring to something else?

It doesn't sound like he's asking anything. I think he's just griping.

If you want to use the X-box as an example, then you are using the wrong product to compare it to.

X-Box/Playstation/PS2/PC/etc.= D20 System.
Dragonlance= Diablo/Diablo2/grndtheft auto (et. al)

Dragon lance is just a game played on the D20 "game machine", with AoM, Bestiary, High Sorcery, Order of the Stars, etc. all being "expansions" to the game, like you would find for Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights, or others.

Even with the video games it wasn't just a matter of a couple of weeks (or even a couple of months) from the release of the brand new game to buying the expansions. IIRC, with Diablo 2, it was a few months after the game was released that the expansion was slated to come out, and then was delayed twice. The video games are no different from the RPGs, except in the RPGs you control the flow, it doesn't usually get boring as fast, you can extrapolate what isn't in the gaming rules from what is in the books (in the case of DL or FR). You still may have to go find the patches to defend against the cheats though.

Um, I don't equate the DLCS as an XBOX. Platform-to-platform, D&D is the most appropriate analogy.

I equate DLCS as one of many games that you can play with the main platform (D&D core ruleset).

Inside his brain?

You can try to stick to the core, but you're only going nowhere and end up delaying your game simply because you're waiting for material. Make Dragonlance your own world. My DL game (hopefully will run when the War of the Lance book is released, but I'm not sweating ... I got other games to play or run) will be different from yours or Dragonhelm's. It may even deviate into an alternate timeline (have not embraced the latest Dragonlance SAGA, err I mean saga yet). Be creative. If you need advice, come here.

Why not for the fun of it, run an Alt.Dragonlance campaign? Try using steampunk and firearms? How about running an oriental campaign in another landmass of Krynn? The main thing is you have fun and enjoy yourselves without having to wonder if you're going non-canon, because more than likely you are.

Yeah, and by now we should be playing Final Fantasy 53 or Diablo 25 on XBOX or PC. :P

My statement was to let those aware that some of us do like the idea of an official(ish) Dragonlance campaign since thats why we are Dragonlance fans but its hard with very little material to go with it.

..and yes it does take a bit of time when you are waiting for the next halo2 but if all you want is another game to go with your system the wait shouldnt be that long. I dont want 10 adventures but the Holy Order of the Stars and a book on races with racial classes or PrC's would be cool. For a world that is strongly guided by the gods and their churches there is very little info on them.

I feel the Campaign setting was released unfinnished with no supporting material. I guess thats my gripe so I wanted to get it off my chest and it will be a cold day when I play SteamPunk or whatever in my DL world.

There's the "glass if half full" or "half empty" way of looking at things.

The positive way of looking at things is that after several years of no Dragonlance game product at all, the DLCS came out in August and AGE OF MORTALS just a few weeks later--with the DM Screen coming out in December. So we went from none to three in the second half of 2003.

Of course, you can always say "I want more." Some people wouldn't be happy if we published two DL products a month--which isn't going to happen, regardless. Our current plans are to publish six Dragonlance products a year, focusing on sourcebooks with major topics (Towers of High Sorcery), but also including adventures (Key of Destiny) and accessories (DM Screen). We are working to get more web enhancements out there to give people more stuff in-between products. We also are working on a merchandising license, so that we can make cool sideline items related to Dragonlance.

We're a small company that is working hard and we're doing our best. However, I learned long ago that you can't please everyone. The biggest example of that comes from working with Margaret Weis--who works very hard, every day, writing her novels and averages two published books each year. But it doesn't take long before a well-intentioned fan says, "Write faster!"

But the fact that you want more is a GOOD thing to me. That can be my "glass is half full" thought of the day.

Take care!

Thats cool Jamie

Im not trying to diss anyone I just wanted to let the folks know how I felt as well as how my small group here in Moncton, New Brunswick feels.

Im sure others feel the same way as I do but I do think that releasing 6 products a year is a great number as long as delays dont lower that number to 3.

Ok, Im off to feed my son, haha

PS
It would be a cool idea (I think) to bring out a book on the non-humans centering on the Minotaur Nation, the goblinoid lands, ogre lands and even the Draconian way of life life.

My girlfriend got a Dragonlance hat for Christmas. It's dated 1994 or something, but is in pristine condition. Anyone care to guess where it's come from?

I can just imagine a little Tanis figure with full whining action. Makes a different pained expression depending on how close it is to the Laurana or Kitiara figures.

However, I definately think that finding whoever it is that's putting together the Glory of Istar game using the Balder's Gate engine would be good - many DL fans would want it, but be unable to download, if you get my drift...

I would like a poster of the Companions, so it can make company to my Dragonlance map in my living room wall :D

On another topic, is there a Dragonlance PC/Playstation/Xbox game? I mean a new one not the old NES ones.
