I hope this doesn't count as an advertisement.  I have no connection to Goodman games; I'm just pretty excited.

Goodman games is combining DCC 17 and 17.5 with a bridging adventure into an 80 page module using AD&D 1st edition rules.  You can buy it at GenCon or online afterwards.

The same way that Judges Guild (after they lost the license from TSR, Creations Unlimited, New Infinities, Inner City Games, &c. have done it. Just avoid actually using anything trademarked by Wizards.

(Which is, of course, greatly simplifying the legal issues involved. But suffice it to say that this is nothing new. It's been done by many companies for a long, long time.)

For instance, you will notice that they never actually say "AD&D", only "1e". Check out the terms (http://www.pied-piper-publishing.com/index.php/products/publisher_s_note) that Rob Kuntz, through his Creations Unlimited & Pied Piper brands, uses to publish AD&D compatible material.

I'm just glad it's not OSRIC, really. I enjoy the DCC series, I don't like OSRIC.
