Will Key of Destiny ever be finished?

I know alot of you hardcore Soveriegn Press fans are going to ream me for making this post, but this module has been delayed 3 times now and were nearing the end of January. Based on the most recent information it should have been released this month. I know they technically have 6 more days left in January but this is really starting to bug me.

Now I know what most of you will say "I'd rather them take their time than put out a bad product". I'm sorry guys but that line is only going to work so long. It was scheduled to be out in October, then pushed back to Dec. 1st, then slated to be out in late December, then scheduled for January. As I've said before "If you make a schedule stick to it".

Feel free to rip me for saying all this, but the fact remains, delays like this can kill Dragonlance third edition. Sure the hardcore people, myself included will buy this stuff no matter how long it takes, but what about people who are indifferent towards Dragonlance. It is a popular book world, but is hated by many as a game world. I've managed to make my group more open to it but I'm too busy to keep making up modules and improvising monsters that should have been released with the beastiary months ago.

I'm hoping the monsters in the Beastiary are done better than the Ogre-Titans in the Age of Mortals book. That template was a BIG dissapointment as I had to layer class levels to make an Ogre-Titan an actual threat.

Do you know if we are likely to see a preview of Key of Destiny on the website (or here) before the release?

Thanks

I really hate to beat the dead horse here, but is there any specific information as to when in February? Early February? Late?

I don't mean to be impatient, and I apologize if that's how I come off. By no means do I want to buy a rough, unpolished product, and I understand that means waiting. I just was wondering if my curiousity could be satisfied.

I haven't heard any plans to do a preview for Key of Destiny. To my knowledge, there won't be one.

Guys, I wish I had more info for you, but I don't. The date has been pushed back several times now, and I've done my best to keep everyone informed.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say late February. Jamie mentioned on one of the boards that Key of Destiny was going to print soon, which generally means roughly 3-week turnaround. Perhaps Jamie could elaborate a bit more.

Sorry I don't have any more info, guys.

I was told that SP would release 6+ gaming products a year, by I think Jamie, but lets get serious at the rate products are being released we will be lucky to get half of that.

I do enjoy DL but wow the products are coming out slow and I think some key ones are going to probably come out in two years or so.

Mpst of my friends enjoy playing FR the most and it does get hard to keep them in DL when Im forced to use generic stuff most fo the time anyway.

After all these delays I hope the editing will be done properly this time.

Oh well I know one friend of mine will buy the DL produicts whenever and however they come out but some of us aren't that easy a sale, hehe.

With the massive delays the only thing SP can do now to keep interest is start releasing adventures and fast. We know it'll take them about two years to release a second after key of destiny is finished so here's my suggestion. Write adventures, GOOD ONES, and post them on the dragonlance website for people to download for free.

My friends and I are back to playing forgotten realms because I'm too busy to keep making up adventures for dragonlance, and frankly, everybody in my group has already told me I might as well give up on Soveriegn Press. Nobody else in my group has bought the dragonlance books because these delays have caused them to lose all faith in dragonlance as a gaming world. On the other hand EVERYBODY in my group has bought the forgotten realms source books! Everyone has the main book and at least two others. The main reason? They knew when it was coming out and went to the store that month. Everyone is sick of going to the store month after month hoping the books will be out.

Back to my main point, start posting adventures on the website for free. It is the only way to keep people playing dragonlance with all the delays going on.

I think it’s a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to give up on Dragonlance gaming since Sovereign Press has had some delays.

Sovereign Press is limited on the number of products they can produce per year. They are a small company that doesn’t have the resources to put out free adventures on the website, when they are busy working on products such as Towers of High Sorcery and War of the Lance. Each of those adventures would have to go through WotC anyway, which is even more headache and hassle.

I know it takes work to write up adventures, but it takes work as well reading over existing adventures and adapting them to your group. There are plenty of resources out there for adventures, from the fan adventures on Dragonlance.com, to Dungeon Magazine, to old Dragonlance adventures in prior editions, etc. etc.

Kipper just finished an adventure called Less Than Zero, and we just finished up an adventure contest on Dragonlance.com. That’s roughly 11 adventures right there for the taking. Plus, if you want to tackle something a bit different, you might adapt some of War of the Dark Lance to mainstream DL, or go with Cam’s Mystic Apocalypse campaign idea he mentioned in another thread.

Wow, that’s a lot of adventures!

I’m sure many of you are anxiously awaiting Key of Destiny. I am too. Just remember that you don’t need to have official DL adventures to have adventures in DL. There are always options.

Nothing is worse than playing through a poorly written or editted module.

If they need more time, then they need more time. Just so long as its good when it's released all delays will be forgiven.

Is the adventure supposed to be a hardback ?

Where did you hear that...everything I've seen has said that their liscense with WotC only allows them to release 4 or 5 products a year (it certainly wasn't 6+).

Let's see...since September (if you count February...since KoD has gone to print)...that's 4 products in a 6 month time frame...where is the "coming out slow." I don't see it.

Yes...they are about 3 months behind schedule...obviously something has happened where there has been a delay that has pushed the whole schedule back. Let them get their feet again, and I'm sure we'll be fine. Let's see...in the next 6 months...we have 4 more products coming to us (Bestiary, Intro to DL Boxed Set, Towers of High Sorcery, and War of the Lance.) 8 products in the first year...I'd say that's pretty frappin' good.

Or...slow, I guess, if some people want to call it that.

Jamie has made the comment that they intend to release a product every other month.

Already we have the DM Screen, and we are to expect KoD (Feb) Bestiary (Mar), ToHS (May), the beginners box set (which Jamie said is set for June iirc) and then the WotL book (Aug).

Im pretty sure it was Jamie Chambers that told me 6.

What are the products that have come out after the WoTC DLCS.

I thought it was just AoM and a DL screen (which is far from a full accesory in my book but thats just my opinion).

Also if he look at the history of productsbeing pushed back counting products that havent come out yet (and certainly nothing shows as of yet that the products will be out on time) would be tricky.

Anyway, hopefully things are on track now and we will ALL be pleased with the timeliness and quality of future SP products.

And what about the other 2 adventures? when are they going to be out? as far as I know KoD is for playing 1 to 4 levels thats not much concidering those are the fastest levels to atain, and you guys are saying that they will relese some books from march to August, if they are going to wait till september to release the 2 volume of the trilogy thats to much time, I hope thats not the case.

Well...actually, I said September...but I should have counted August (cause the DLCS was "officially" published in August).

August - DLCS
September - AoM
December - DL DM Screen
February - KoD

Those were the four I was talking about...so I guess it's actually 4 products in 7 months...which I think is still pretty darn good.

You mentioned in an earlier thread you might be able to give us some background to Key of Destiny. Is that still a possibility? Or a mini-preview of something from the adventure, perhaps?

Thanks

Ok,hehe I wasnt counting the DLCS since it wasnt a SP release and the only release that SP has done since AoM (which was there initial release) was very very late.

But as I said hopefully that was just the newlywed jitters and things will really heat up in the old room now

Not to nitpick here, but all levels should take just as long as each other to attain when the experience point awards system is properly applied. It should take you just as long to get from 6th to 7th as it does from 1st to 2nd.

Is that going to be the general trend for the modules then? It would be amazing if they would bring you from 1st to 20-ish level between the three of them. I am definitely looking forward to there mega-adventures.

The three put together should bring a character up to about 20th level, IIRC. Chris may wish to elaborate on this further.

Here's what I said on an old thread > Click Here <, where I gave some other minor details, but basically, what I can say is...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A mysterious elven artifact falls into the hands of a group of individuals fated to lead a new generation of heroes in a world that has seen many changes over the last few decades. The War of Souls is over, the gods have returned, and ancient evils have awakened. Can the heroes take hold of the Key of Destiny and unlock its secrets?

The Key of Destiny is designed as the first of a brand new, ongoing Dragonlance campaign trilogy of adventures, an introductory adventure that will take 1st level characters through 7th level. The characters are swept up in a tangled and intricate plot stretching back to the Age of Dreams, yet resurrected by the Fifth Age and the War of Souls.

* New monsters
* New magic items & New spells
* Lotsa maps!

To use this accessory, you also need the Dragonlance Campaign Setting, the Player’s Handbook, the Dungeon Master’s Guide, and the Monster Manual, published by Wizards of the Coast. The Dragonlance Campaign Setting Companion: The Age of Mortals, published by Sovereign Press, Inc., will also provide an invaluable resource of the current Dragonlance era of gaming!
--------------------------------------------------

On the scope of the adventures, I packed them full not only with the "core" adventure, but with numerous adventure seeds and tangents. Roughly, I tried to follow a "One Chapter = One (Approximate) Level," with each chapter being basically a contained story arch. The idea is for the three adventures, together, to form a complete campaign, taking characters roughly from 1st level 'til around 18th/20th level, depending upon how much of the side quests are pursued and the like, with a good mix of "dungeon" crawls (although as of yet, no actual 'dungeons!'), roleplaying, city quests, wilderness treks, etc.

Any more details will hafta come from Jamie I'm just a freelancer now
