The answer is yes and no. Yes, they're making an 3.5 DS conversion seperate from the one at The Burnt World of Athas that will appear in Dungeon and Dragon magazines only. No hardcover, box set, or flip book.

Figured I'd answer you before someone else came and ribbed you out for not searching through the boards for threads like this one or this one or even this one or taadaa! this one. I'm sure there's a few more.

And Xlore gets . . . a cookie

See. Playing nice with others has its rewards. Otherwise, I would have to infect your favorite media player to only play Richard Marks songs.

Sorry Dawnstealer, we have to keep some people out of the loop, you know, for security purposes.

The answer is yes and no, but for a different reason.

Dragon is coming up with an "official' DS 3.5. Dragon is no longer 'owned' by WotC, so WotC is not coming up with an 'official' DS 3.5. Do not confuse what is being done in Dragon/Dungeon with what WotC is doing - they are now separate entities, even though WotC retains some 'oversight' of what is being published.

Athas.org has also published an "official" DS 3.5.

What it comes down to is the agreements/contracts that Paizo (the company that now owns Dragon and Dungeon magazines) and the "Official" Dark Sun fansit (Athas.org) have.

It would appear that both contracts allow the publishing of "official" material.

So you figure out which one is the "most" official.

Good points. Still, I'll take quality over status anyday. Official or not, if it bites the big one, I won't hesitate to chuck the mags on the shelf to collect dust. If it surpases the Athas.org conversion, loyalty aside and all, I'll have no problem adopting it and save myself the printer ink ;). There's other conversion on the web if you can find them (Strutinan's is available via email requests, Niel's is available here, and I've lost the link somehow to shie's conversion site). Use what suits you, not simply something with some damn 'official' stamp of approval that in the end, means diddly squat.

Shei-Nad's World of Athas is here. Doesn't look like it's been updated in months, though, and I haven't seen him around these parts in as long. Some interesting feat ideas, and a cool equipment chapter.

Maybe it's time, now, to worry about getting out of the darkness and put everywhere on the net and in our dnd shop, information and poster showing that athas.org as THE official conversion and where to get it?

I think Gab, Flip and Jon should show up to answer this one.

It begin to be important if we wish to keep our official identity, because dragon mag wont bother about us. He will publish and he as a lot more, right now, long arm to reach the players base.

THE official conversion

My local shop already knows me as a DS aficionado, and I've also gave them the run down of Athas.org (as well as the other main fansites) as a plug for anyone showing an interest in the discontinued settings of TSR. I'm not sure about the need for posters and pamphlets and such. Just plug the setting as you see fit, mentioning the athas.org conversion. Even if Dragon chunks out a royal piece of feces, there are still some people that will take it as THE official source and use it, while most people will use which ever they want to. Ram-roding the status of either project down someone's throat though sure ain't likely to garner any new fans. No one likes a *dang censors* contest.

Flip already posted on the Athas.org site the 'status' of things and how the 'team' is 'talking' with Paizo, so in the long run things should be better for the setting itself. Who knows with all the interest being banted about WotC itself might acually take DS back into the fold (hoping, hoping) and start producing products again.

Remember DS is the setting that wouldn't die and WotC has kept resurrecting it over the years.

PS, I have a vested interest in seeing how the Athas.org team works things out with Paizo and maybe even WotC since I'm on the Birthright.net d20 development team and we at that "Official" fan site have been working on the "Official" 3.5 version of that setting.

No, he's not here a lot indeed...

He's pretty busy, and sadly, does not have much time (not as much as he'd like anyways) to give to Dark Sun.

His website as indeed not been updated in a while, though his works have. Abilities, races are completely 3.5, flavor text and all, and I'm quite happy with those. Lots of new stuff in other chapters. Finally happy with Gladiator class, psionic combat, many feats, equipment... going to post it all when I have free time, probably not before June...

By the way, grummore, I'm not dead, I just almost never go see my email... just shows how little time I spend on the net these days... I'll write back...

Anyhow, I'll wait until I get to see the Dragon and Dungeon conversions before tweaking my stuff further.

Glad some of you liked my work.

Heh - hello Shei-Nad

Good to see you're still among the quick. I'll look forward to seeing your stuff up on the net when you've found the time. It was good to see such a fully fleshed out alternative conversion. Some of those feats were very clever ;)

Dragon 315 with the defiler stuff still hasn't reached this part of the world. Badna alone knows when 319 will arrive...

Umm.... err..... yea.

Not one of my best moments there. I can understand the whole "don't jump on new guys" thing, but umm... sometimes I have to wonder how someone comes to this forum *without* looking for posts that are the same question they want to know.... even if it is on the first page... It really bothers me.

But anywho, I don't want to get into a rant and lose my cookie...

Its not a fried cookie either, its a live miniature giant space hamster!!

You just gulp it down like in the tv show V and it gives you access to whole new dimensions of gaming!

-found lacking: there should be an icon for miniature giant space hamsters-

I've found a hamster smilie, at the following page:
http://www.mazeguy.net/animal.html

Maybe someone has a graphic designer friend who could make the boards a true space hamster smilie?

Is there a way to make other smilies work on these boards?
