Hey folks.

Below is a preview version of the Athas-specific list for Summon Nature's Ally. This is the list that will be featured in the upcoming Terrors of Athas release from athas.org and we're looking for feedback, comments, suggestions - the usual round of blistering critique. The final version will be the official list, to be released with ToA. There's another thread for Summon Monster.

Mark.

Hi!

Good job! DS needed really such a list!
IMHO there's too much "aquatic"creature in the 4th and 8th level... particulary the 8th lvl. You can summon (in normal conditions) Athasian Roc or a Noble Salamander (pretty good creatures but that's not the point)... I know that's no more proposed creature in the "official" 3.5 rules... maybe it could be a good opportunity to give real choice to the druid? Maybe the "minor" drakes of the draconomicon? Or "toolbox" as lammasu or sphinx (I've always thought about "athasian lammasu" neutral and used by officials of Urik...) Shambling mound? Tendriculous? Mekillot?

BTW good job! I enjoy to see the preview of the summon monster!

See you

Hi Nefal - thanks for your feedback. Good points about the aquatic creatures. They certainly unbalance the list at 8th level. I'll have a look at tweaking that and coming up with an alternative. Cheers

OK, tweaked the list to have strine at 4th level and drik at 8th level. Had to lose the dire shark, but there you go. This should be a bit more balanced

Dag!

I must admit I've know idea what's a strine or a drik... but I trust you and hope it would be more balanced!

Great job for the summon monster list too!

See you

Heh - a drik is a giant shelled lizard, a bit like a mekillot but more grumpy. They were originally in DSMC2. The strine is a sort of mutant porcupine - it's from Polyhedron iirc - that shoots its quills at its enemies. Anyway, they'll both be in the imminent ToA

Tiger (animal) is listed at both 4th and 5th level. Was that intentional?

Nope. That was just plain stupid. Lemme fix that. Shoo, kitty, shoo...

(Thanks, Del )

Edit: OK, replaced it with the tigone. It seemed a better replacement for the nixie. Ta!

What are your reasons for having shadow giant on the list?

I initially needed a replacement for the satyr and started by looking at creatures of appropriate CR and abilities (in other words, it shouldn't be replaced by some CR 6 animal.) I also considered the fact that the Nature's Ally spells can summon creatures from planes tied to the (super)natural world - the inner planes rather than the outer planes. On Athas, this includes the Black. The shadow giant met all of the above criteria quite nicely and so I went for that.
