My friend was telling me about Dark Sun and it sounded like a great setting. Now I know there has been no official 3ed or 3.5 material published save the Urban Druid in dragon a month or so back. Has any loyal Dark Sun fan put the great setting into the new D&D? A website perhaps. If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks.

Ouf...glad I got to you first (what's that Nyt?:D, nah...just messin')

See, contrarily to other boards for other D&D settings, this one ties in directly with an official DS site: athas.org

Its got official new documents released for free to the fans. Some of it is made by the athas.org team, some were unreleased accessories by TSR that the team converted to DS 3.0.

The documents are in D&D 3rd edition, and the core rules have even been made into v3.5. One of the members of this board as developped v3.5 dragon rules that might even make it to official status.

Over the hundreds of people that come post on this board, many never post again. But among the regulars, we've got maybe 10 who are members of the DS staff at athas.org. So most of the discussions you'll read will be about the documents released and the future rules. It means that you, as player, can ask questions and offer comments to the actual designers, no farther than a post away.

Others, like me, cook up some rules or characters, monsters, whatever, once in a while.

Feel free to browse the boards, simply type in the topic you want to explore in the search engine at the bottom of the page and read what the community had to say on any of hundreds of subjects (you wouldn't know this, but this is the second iteration of the DS boards, a lot of keys have been pressed over the years).

So please browse around before posting a future question, in case it as already been answered on some thread, for your better enjoyment. And people will respond in a general better way if they see you've done your homework. ;)

As for DS material published in Dragon Magazine, go read this thread, its got connections to all the other threads that talk about DS in the magazine.

Welome to the boards, Technomancer!

Welcome aboard Tech.

Actually, not to contradict Pennarin, but these boards are for everything DS, not simply the Athas.org conversion. Granted, most of the people here (myself included) use their work, the boards are open to talks about everything under the Crimson Sun, including house rules and homebrew conversion, non canon talks, and most importantly, hamsters. There's a good chunk of info in the threads about DS, but you best hurry up and start reading since the boards are going to be trimmed up in a few days (well, tomorrow anyhow).

(edit)
Okay, never mind. Just seen the pruning cencelation (after the fact of course). Now I can delete out the umpteen dozen threads I've been copy pasting

Seriously, is it really that hard to investigate something before posting? Not getting mad or anything, just curious. Maybe the layout isn't easy enough or something I don't know. Just don't like the implication that athas.org isn't easy to find is all. Especially since they put out alot of great stuff and it would be a shame if any DS fan passed it up without getting a good look first.

/me shrugs

Anyways, welcome to the boards. Glad to have another fan aboard.

Welcome to the boards, Technomancer

FYI, there was also a treatment of Dark Sun's rules for defiling magic in Dragon #315. It generated quite a bit of chat on the boards and you find some inventive tweaks and variants in recent threads on the subject.

(It only just arrived here in The Hague so Rajaat alone knows when the urban druid will arrive...)

Hope you find the new incarnations of DS to your liking. For the best set of links to the online DS community, check out Grummore's Silt Skimmer Page - it rules

(Waves to attract attention of Overcouncil / WizO's - Folks, would it be an idea to sticky a post at the top with some of these FAQs in it? We're getting more of these "Is there a 3e DS?" than usual these days, it seems. Good publicity deserves good signposting ).

Amen to that.

Actually, that's a great idea. Some of us regulars should be able to come up with a pretty good FAQ, and then tack it to the top (with Wiz 'O permission, 'course).

So, let's hear it: what are the questions that are coming up the most?

I guess I probably could investigate it by looking over the previous boards and coming up with statistics, but I'm an artist, and artists are notoriously flighty and weird.

A good FAQ would be great.

I am also posting at the DL board, and the FAQ they have there works great.
I haven't had anything to do with darksun for some years now, so it took me a while to catch up on the whole DS3 project.
(just visited athas.org yesterday) I must say, the work is impressive.

Oh shad-up and go draw, Dawn! ;)

Jokes aside, Dawn is right.
Here's a few Qs:

Q. What do these boards cover in relation to DS?

Q. Is there a source, even official, of DS for 3rd edition? A website?

Q. What is the protocol for posting new threads on this boards?

Q. I heard some of the designers of DS3.0 sometimes visit the boards, is that true?

Q. What do all these abbreviations stand for?
DS - Dark Sun
DS3.0 - A general term for DS converted for the 3rd editon rules of D&D
DS3.5 - Specificaly, the conversion to v3.5 of the rules.
TotDL - Terrors of the Dead Lands (athas.org monster manual)
CSoD - City-State of Draj (athas.org accessory)
VofW - Villages of the Wastes (2nd edition athas.org accessory)
WSC - Wizard Spell Compendium (2nd edition athas.org accessory)
WotD - Wisdom of the Drylanders (2nd edition athas.org accessory)
WJ - Wanderer's Journal (document found in the DS Boxed Set)
PP - Prism Pentad (series of 5 novels by Troy Denning)
RaFoaDK - Rise and Fall of a Dragon King (a novel by Lynn Abbey)
TC - Tyrian Conspiracy (adventure)
WotS - Whispers ofthe Storm (athas.org adventure)
DA - Dregoth Ascending (athas.org adventure)
SotDL - Secrets of the Dead Lands (athas.org accessory)

Q. What is all that talk of hamsters?
A. Thats reserved for the inner circle. We've also got space halflings, 'though that's confidential too.

Note: not all of the abbreviations are used often, so some pruning would be good.

Actually, that was something which both me and another frequent poster on a different message board started responding to posts that frustrated us, and could have resulted in flames. The other poster did it so much that he eventually got named "Rainbow Lord", and his title was changed to reflect that.
