He got out with it and got a detect magic cast on it, ofcourse it had a magic aura and my player decided to investigate on this item furthermore before opening the damned thing. So with a lot of effort and really fun roleplaying he found at that the tome had belong to a wizard which had dissapeared from the castle in a very hasteful manner. Rumors said that the "magic book" ate him and that he was sent to either heaven or hell and couldnt return again. Now heres the part which was very unexpected, the city was attacked by a dracolich (of course i had planned that :p ) but what i didnt had in mind was that my dear player wanted to open the tome and begin to read it. He went to the nearest temple (not Mask's though) and explained some high priest that the book could save the city and bring the dracolich down. The priests gathered in a circle and began chanting while the high priest opened the tome and began to read. (At this moment I casted 1d100, 1-25 = celestial being would show up, 26-50 = a being from the darkest place of hell would show up, 51-100 the caster would be sucked into the book and never return unless brought back magically) Ofcourse i rolled a 22 and a celestial being showed up, rescued the city by shooting the dracolich down with major magics and arrows. So now, the group sits in their own shop, drinking a beer or two and talks about what happened. I want to give the players some xp for all this, but what is the tome worth? how much/litlle is appropriate to give? I have looked through ecyclopedia magica and cant find a tome of summoning. (It just wasnt THAT easy :p ) So what say you? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Graazzt Date : 08-01-07 04:34 AM Thread Title : Re: Something of summoning What level are the PCs? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Ferns Date : 08-01-07 04:46 AM Thread Title : Re: Something of summoning app 6th level but it really doesnt matter if they get a boost (either in negative or positive direction for this. I should be able to handle it) Edit: I have been looking further into the encyclopedia magica and given the tome a value of 4000 xp just like a tablet of spirit summoning described on page 1418. Is this all bad? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Graazzt Date : 08-02-07 02:14 AM Thread Title : Re: Something of summoning Well, since they did something good for the town, they should get something, but maybe not as much as if they hade kicked the monster's ass themselves? _Unless_ the got a very good standing in the town because of opening the book and the town people thought it was not just pure luck, but really their doing. I would say at least 1000 xp for each character unless you only want to give extra to the guy who opened the book (and risked his life). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:23 AM.
