Back in '01, I found a Dark Sun Website that had info on Draj and a map. Well, back then, I decided to color it and overlay parchment over it. Enjoy.

That's some really nice work. Unless I'm very much mistaken, that's the old version of Gab's map of Draj from his City-State stuff before it got released by athas.org. There's a more recent version of the map in City-State of Draj. Now if you could do a colour version of that map...

Wow, they did change it after I took a peek at the CSoD PDF.

I have an idea.

Yep, Derek did the original map for Draj, which I had posted on my website (didn't know it was posted anywhere else). I updated the map for CSoD, based on information from other sources I didn't have at the time, and a lot of help from Austin Butcher.

By all means, if you want to color the map in CSoD, then do so!

Here is an updated map.

http://www.freewebs.com/raloftyr/draj.htm

It is a 300kb Jpg, beware.

I basically colored the new map, according to the description in DSoD.pdf. I overlayed it with papyrus, being that Draj probably would have more access to that instead of parchment. I also added images I found on the web and created a little section of basic Draj huts in the style of the Tyr Map. I like that style. Enjoy.

OOOOOOOOooooooooOoooOOoOOoO

Where'd you get the images of the temple and menagerie??? They huts look a little like something from Age of Empires or a successor game (only ever played the first one). If so, you gotta spill how you got the images from the game.

Mach, you have a good eye.

The huts came from the Sumerian set from AoE, modified by me (I moved the doors etc. for variety). All the other stuff was from Rise of Nations, Aztec set, since it sort of goes with the theme. I found the Aztec sets by seaching RoN fansites until I found gifs with a monocolor background. I have a program that removes the background color so I can create cities like that. I have tons of building files taken from various games that I can use to create screenshot style maps. I have the program (NBOS 1) and the building files, if any are interested. It is a tricky way to create a city. You have to put the farther back buildings in first, or you will have erase a whole row.

Makes me wonder if there are any tactical games like that in which you could create a city and snap off a screen shot, preferably through a scenario editor. Doubtful that any game has enough of a variety of buildings before the map begins to look repetitous (already checked through Age of Empires, not much there).

Wow! Great work done. :inlove:
I especially like that you made it look like the Tyr map, with all the buildings around the map. Again, great work.

Ral, one small thing - the temple of Guthay is mis-spelled on the label of the insert image as Temple of Gunthay. Just a little nit-pick

I wondered that too years ago. Here is what I have found and used.

Age of Kings (good for small detailed maps of wilderness buildings)

Caeser 3 Editor (which I found free on the internet), it has three terrain sets and three buildings each for each terrain set. If you do it right, you can make a great little village!

Tzar: Burden of the Crown Editor. It is free to download and try, you just cannot save any of your maps. Which you don't need to if you take screenshots.

Neverwinter Nights Editor; Good, but it takes a long time to make a map.

Celtic Kings: War of Rage; It has a full editor and many building types and detailed terrain features. A Punic War version is coming out soon with a desert tileset. YAY!!!

The repetitiousness is why I just find image gifs of the buildings and change them around. I have a good image set of Age of Empires where I modified the builds so they look different.

Ral, one small thing - the temple of Guthay is mis-spelled on the label of the insert image as Temple of Gunthay. Just a little nit-pick

I new I should have labelled it The Temple of Ral, it's easier to spell!!!1!!

It was fairly easy to fix and re-upload. I deleted my Adobe file of it already so I just have a .BMP.

.....
I have plans to make several Dark Sun City maps in that style. Draj was a test for me to get the technique down. I thought about drawing out the buildgs, however, I have tried that and it takes a long, long time.

.......
Thanks everyone!!!1!!, I'll continue to keep up the good work!

Go for it - if they're anything like this one they'll be great
