Any of you ever had a kender in the party? Talk about frustrating, especially for a wizard with lots of spell focii.

Kender Ward

Conjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 2
Casting time: 1 action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 hour/level (D)

This spell was developed by a White Robe Wizard of High Sorcery to give Black Robe wizards an option other than killing kender who stole their spell components.

The effects are as follows:

1. Any time a kender approaches within 15 ft, the caster receives a mental warning as the alarm spell.

2. When a Kender attempts to 'borrow' an item from the caster's person, the spell creates a tiny, shiny and very interesting object in the pouch or pocket the kender has targetted. The kender is then allowed a will save to avoid taking the conjured item, and takes it, and only it if he fails.

3. If a kender succeeds in taking an item other than the conjured one, the caster is once again notified as if by the alarm spell.

Conjured items generally appear to have a value around 2 steel pieces, but may be worth more than that when trading with other kender. They last for the duration of the spell.

A kender can be affected multiple times by this spell, but only gets a will save on the first attempt. If that one is failed, he automatically chooses to 'borrow' the conjured object on all future attempts until the spell ends. If a kender is successful on the first will save, he must continue to make a new will save, with a +2 bonus on each future attempt until one is failed.

Hehe, God I love kender. Along with gully dwarves they're the best plot device, ever.

Ah, but does the Kender Ward protect against this?

Bloody kender. The kender in our party is capable of casting that spell, too. I'm not sure where he would learn it though...since I certainly won't teach it to him, even if I find a wizard who knows it. Plus, using that spell would mean that the kender has a better reason to take the item than that I 'dropped' it, so I doubt it will be a common occurance...
