I am wondering would the Dragon lance campaign setting worth buying if you dont plan on using the actual campaign? Are there enough new unique rules that would be workable into another campaign?

You could use a lot of the new character creation material, from the two new core classes (mystic and noble) and prestige classes (file the serial numbers off them and you can use them in your own campaign setting) to the handful of new feats and races such as the half-ogre, minotaur and centaur. There's also a section on aerial combat, many new spells and magic items, and some new cleric domains. If any of this appeals to you and you can strip some of the Krynnish names and background from it, then it would be a fairly good buy.

The same goes for the Age of Mortals sourcebook, actually. I don't think I would be stretching it much to say that the prestige classes included in that book are easily transplanted into other settings, and there are even more new feats, race options, magic items, spells, etc etc.

Cheers,
Cam

In my opinion, and I am terribily sorry wizards for saying this, but it most likely isn't.

I sometimes buy sourcebooks to read, and I find them enjoyable enough. Books like the Draconimicion (sp? I seriously have no idea ) was great to read, and some feats are worthwhile to integrate, but I am a huge sticker for 'officalness'.

So if you want a good read and an aid to help you when you come across something in a DL book that you don't understand, then go ahead and buy it. But remember, DL is a unique campaign world and therefore has many unique aspects/rules that may or may not work in other worlds.

Of course you can always use DL specific stuff in Ravenloft. I mean Ravenloft is sorta like the play-all, bring-all realm for anything you want to use.

The mystic and DL view of a sorceror work really well with them being essentially believing and drawing power from yourself.

One might even say the mystic should replace the pesky cleric who is not dedicated to a god, but and an ideal (which by the way allows a person to essentially select any 2 domains his wants, to a point of course)
