Casting a Dark Sun Movie

No, there is no Dark Sun movie, and no there probably won't be. Hopefully, the way I worded my title won't spark any (other ;)) rumor.

Anyways, I was reading all the gossip around a DragonLance movie (which seemingly only exists in the hearts of DL fans) and saw that there were several ''Dream Casts" described. That's a fun idea, so I was trying to come up with ideas for Dark Sun' main Characters.

Who would be your dream cast for, say, the Verdant Passage? Note that they would all need to train a bit to be more fit to fit the musculatures and low fat of Dark Sun Characters.

As for me, just by looking at the pictures, I think Pierce Brosnan (sp?) would really look the part for Agis, and his calm demeanor in movies would probably do too.

Angelina Jolie would make a great Sadira. Go see that painting of her in the doorstep on the Amber Enchanteress... That outfit would really be great ;)

Anyways, I'd like ideas on other characters, such as:

Rikus: Who would be muscled enough and be able to carry out that main character?

Neeva: Physically strong female actors aren't that common...

Tithian: Need a really good double-crossing-looking creepy actor here. Was thinking of Johnny Depp, but not sure he looks the part.

Kalak: Not Ian McKellen. Someone who looks much older, and much meaner.

Others?

What do you think?

Kalak: Anthony Hopkins or Christopher Lee?

The Rock (muscled and stupid enough)

And for the others...

Nok: Danny De Vito (small enough...)

Sacha or Wyan: Andy Serkis (Gollum)

I would thin that
Arnold Schwarnegger would suit the Rikus role or maybe Dolph Lundgren :p Both are good ans kickarse actors!

Hobbits? pffff.

Dolph Lundgren was actually on my mind as well, but I was hoping to find a better actor. Sure, they kick serious behind, but that's not due to acting ability. I don't want an athasian B-movie.

PS: It's Schwarzenegger

I think Vin Diesel would make a better Rikus. Check out Pitch Black some time. The real trick would be to find people that aren't pretty to look at, generally, for the other characters.

Sadira: Always thought she was a bit more filled-out than Angelina. What about Natasha Henstridge with red hair? What about Rebecca Romain-Stamos? Actually, she'd be real good.

Agis: Mel Gibson or someone along those lines. Someone who can carry a lot of expression in their eyes and is a pretty decent actor. Brad Pitt might not be a bad choice, either.

Tithian: Hmmm....What about Ed Norton? Someone who can play slimy and get away with it?

Kalak: Damn, that' one's tough. Ian McDiarmid? The guy who played Palpatine in Star Wars?

Here's my votes:

Rikus- Either Goldburg or Vin Desiel Cheesy I know but it wouldn't be hard to play a strong mul.

Tithian- Gary Oldman no doubt a good fit

Agis- A tough one to fill but I'd go with either Mel Gibbson or Bruce Willis. I'll get flamed for that choice.

Sidra- Liv Tylor (yeah I know) or Ashly Judd

Neeva- Have to go with the obvious and say the actor that plays Xena. Its a good cast, deny it all you like.

Kalak- Terence Stamp (Zod from Superman II, Chancellor Velorum from Episode I)

Liv is way too wholesome. You need someone who's suitably skanky to play Sadira.

How about Alica(sp) Silverstone?

Hey, yeah! She was skanky! What about Christina Aguilera?

Ooo! Perfect: Fairuza Balk! She even looks a little "elfish."

Hmmm . . .

Rikus - He's the easiest of them all: Leonardo Decaprio. There's no one else I'd rather see get wupped on as much as Rikus did in the novels.

Sadira - Trashy, whorish, incapable of forming a cohesive thought train. Its gotta be Pamela Anderson, no doubt about it.

Aegis - Intelligent, cultured, full of compasion and depth, yet a touch niave. The only one who could pull this one off would have to be Gary Coleman. I know what you may be thinking, but just mull the idea about for a few minutes and you'll have to agree.

Neeva - Strong of body and of mind. Capable, independant. None other than Rosie O'donnel. I'm sure that she was Denning's basis for Neeva all along.

Tithian - Someone rougish and dasterdly, someone who you know is lying through that greesy smile. Someone you could picture selling used cars. Randy Quaid. He may be a bit taller than the novel version, but he's got everything else nailed.

Rhkard - Now this one's really tough. Youthfull, niave, full of energy yet also fatalistic and melancholic. Jeremy Irons. I think he'd be great to play the cute kid turned world savior.

Joorsh and Saram - While they weren't really twins in the books, I think we can take some artistic liscense here by giving the dual parts to Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen. All they would need is some minor facial disfigurements . . . they've already got the whole lack of any real intelligence down pat.

Borys - Well, obviously we wouldn't have a real actor here, but who could pull of doing the voice of The dragon. I was innitially sold on James Earl Jones, but then I thought of someone with even more presence, far more commanding and dominating in tone: Skreetch from Saved By The Bell. You can just here the mighty roars . . .

Kalak - Another tough one. He's gotta appear decrepit, yet still posses a presence that says 'don't mess with me', all wrapped up in a spark of madness. Elmo. I'm unsure who does the voice, but I'm opting for the total package here. Elmo, the Tyrant of Tyr, killer of thousands.

And while he has very few lines and only a brief appearance at the end of the last flick, we can't forget Rajaat. Larger than life. More unreal than real. Someone who can steal the stage from all the previous talented people . . . none other than William Shatner would do. Beam me up Rajaat, I'm comming home.

Charlize Theron for Neeva?

I second Vin Diesel for Rikus, he seems to fit the part of a mule-headed, well, mul.

Robert de Nero for Tithian and Mel Gibson for Agis. Robert de Nero might be too old, but if that could be worked out, him or Al Pacino would do a good job.

I had him in mind as well. Then Benecio del Toro leapt to mind.

I also agree that Vin Diesel could do a good Rikus.

Curses Mach. you've hit upon the perfect cast!

However, what about switching Gary Coleman over to the aprt of Rikus? I mean, Rikus is pretty chiseled, he's reknown for his endurance and fighting power and brooding. In short, he'r got a pretty powerful presence. Gary could really pull that off.

Who to replace Gary as Agis? If not Gary Coleman ( an exellent choice, of course) how about Gary Busey? There's a guy with incredible intellectual discipline. And as for compassion? Just look at how he took Adam under his wing and taught him the joys of living!

That's pure genius! As long as he can stay only a smigeon sober enough to get through his lines, it would be a masterpiece.

Wonderful, I'm glad you approve, Mach.

For those who would prefer an more, shall we say 'traditional', casting, I nominate Sir Ben Kingsley to play the role of Kalak.

I mean, ya got an epic character... ya need an epic actor...

Huh, a better Tithian would be John Tuturro. He's just too good.

With Kalak, maybe Barney the purple dinosaur or a teletubby. Those teletubbies scare the crap out of me...

I'd pay good money to see the movie if they had Mr. Belvedere as Rikus...

Funny you say that Dawnstealer... whenever I try to picture who it is that runs the mysterious Order, I always come up with an image of the teletubbies...

So far, my favorite for Tithian is a close tie between Turturro, Norton, and Quaid.

Going out on a limb here and casting against type...

How about John Goodman for Sadira...?

(...Hmm, perhaps I'm getting to silly...)

Better: Tammy Fae Baker...

...as Rikus.

I think Ron Jeremy would make a GREAT Sadira.
