#1angalMar 22, 2004 22:42:10 | Simple Are there Giants or Titans in dragon lance? |
#2zombiegleemaxMar 22, 2004 22:48:32 | Yes...there are Hill Giants....and Yes...there are Ogre Titans....but not Titans from the monster manual |
#3cam_banksMar 22, 2004 23:03:02 | Giants of all varieties (hill, fire, frost, stone, cloud and storm) are possible in Dragonlance as ogre offshoots, but only hill giants are widespread. All other giant types are typically unique or abnormal individuals born to hill giants or ogres, rather than being a separate species or clan. Monster Manual titans, as Serena notes, don't exist in Dragonlance. Cheers, Cam |
#4angalMar 22, 2004 23:09:59 | So Titans are just HD advanced Ogres? or what, and is there anything like the MM titans wish the magic and bigness :P |
#5cam_banksMar 22, 2004 23:20:18 | Originally posted by Angal Ogre titans are the creation of an ogre mage who developed a process that boosts an ogre's strength, intelligence and magical power to superhuman levels. The change requires elven blood and dark magic, and is temporary, so ogres who become ogre titans are dependent on the process to maintain their enhanced state. A template for the ogre titan is included in the Age of Mortals sourcebook. Cheers, Cam |

#7sweetmeatsMar 23, 2004 8:17:07 | What was the reasoning for removing Titans? Just avoid confusion with Ogre Titans? Or something else? |
#8cam_banksMar 23, 2004 8:20:03 | Originally posted by SweetMeats They were never in there in the first place. In an attempt to incorporate the idea of titans into Dragonlance, Rise of the Titans proposed that an ogre mage with delusions of his race's ancestral might attempt to change his people into what he believed they always should have been before the fall of the ogres (or Paladine's curse, as he puts it). Titans had literally never been used, mentioned or included in Dragonlance before, so while that's no reason to leave them out necessarily, in this instance the means of putting them in significantly changed them from normal D&D3E concept. Cheers, Cam |
#9zombiegleemaxMar 23, 2004 8:36:11 | I can see good reasoning now not to include them with the ogre titans, only because the ogre titans fulfill a greater purpose. Not only do they fill up the MM titan's spot in DL, but they have an awesome story behind them |
#10zombiegleemaxMar 23, 2004 10:36:33 | I created five giant kingdom-steddings on Ansalon. The frost giants lived on Icewall Glacier and worshipped Garaun the Devourer (i.e., Sargonnas). The fire giants lived on Sancrist, near Mount Nevermind. They were essentially a race of non-humorous tinkers, though their technology came nowhere near the complexity and advancement of the gnomes. They worshipped Enlin the Forger (i.e., Reorx). Hill giants dwelt in Nightlund, and worshipped Tinara the Five-Headed Chieftess (i.e., Takhisis). Cloud giants dwelt in the clouds, and prayed to Gimonh the Sky-cleaver (i.e., Habbakuk) and his brother Montarro the Bull (i.e., Kiri-Jolith). And storm giants dwelt on the highest mountain top in the Kharolis Mountains. They are a force of introspective good, and pray to Deszmakhin the Vast (i.e., Paladine). --on my Krynn, giants are the smallest race (in terms of population) NB |
