This is a system that I came up with to stat near powers, as well as beings like Baphomet; near powers turned gods. It's based on Deities and Demigod's system, with what I feel should be the guidlines for statting such beings. I originally posted this on the FR boards in my Deity Stats and Avatars thread, and wanted to post here so those who might really benfit from it could read.

This system is based on virtual divine rank (VDvR). Basically this represents beings who have god-like abilities and strengths, but do not recieve power from worship. The being recieve any benefits of divinity that their rank would give, but they do not recieve Domain powers or spells, or portfolio sense, or any other abilities strictly related to worhsip.

Instead of giving these beings SDAs, I think they all deserve unique powers, as per those described in their 2e stat blocks. So no class levels, but feel free to give spellcasting ability, again as per 2e stats. As far as outsider HD (the only HD they should have), think 25-50, commensurate with their rank, as well as their status on their planes.

For the semi divinities (graz'zt, slaad lords), they should be given the benefits commensurate to their VDvR (1-5), immunities, DR, SR, but nothing relating to domains (as they haven't worshippers, or at least not in the traditional sense). Their abilities should also be done as such, but with thought given to their 2e stats as always.

For the Archfiend gods (baphomet, Demogorgon), they get ALL of the benefits of their divine rank, EXCEPT SDAs, which, once again should be replaced with unique abilities with their 2e stats taken in mind. They do, however get two sets of Spell-like abilities, one for their domain spells, and another along the lines of their 2e selves.

Here is an example of a Tanar'ri lord built by me with this system.

Lupercio
Baron of Sloth
Abyssal Lord
Symbol
: Smile of razor sharp teeth on shadowy background
Home Plane: Abyss/128th/Slugbed (wanders)
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Portfolio: -
Worshippers: Cultists, Shadow Demons, Shadows.
Cleric Alignments: -
Domains: -
Favored Weapon: Slam

Lupercio is the embodiment of the strength of darkness. He is one of the strongest beings to walk the Abyss. Tales say he is the child of Pale Night, the ancient Abyssal Lady whose castle can be found within Baphomet’s Endless Maze. If this is true, then he would also be the brother of Graz’zt, though they certainly share no outward bond. His true form is unknown, because the light around him bends, cloaking him is shadow. He switched back and forth between periods of sloth-like inactivity, and bouts of quickness and haste.

Medium-Size Outsider (Chaotic, Evil, Extraplanar, Tanar’ri)

Special Attacks: Spell-like abilities, fear, summon nightwalker, summon shadow, summon tanar’ri, spells.
Special Qualities: Divine aura (30 ft., DC 22), divine immunities, DR 15/epic, fire resistance 8, godly realm (Slugbeds; 300 ft. elsewhere), remote communication 3 miles, SR 35, greater teleport at will, understand, speak, and read all languages and speak directly to all beings within 3 miles, blind-sight 20 ft, darkvision, aura of darkness, aura of sloth.
Saves: Fort +34, Ref +38, Will +34.
Abilities: Str 44, Dex 34, Con 26, Int 28, Wis 26, Cha 29.

Skills: Balance +45, Bluff +52, Climb +40, Concentration +46, Diplomacy +22, Escape Artist +45, Gather Info +42, Hide +75, Intimidate +57, Jump +40, Knowledge (Arcana) +47, Knowledge (Abyssal Politics) +47, Knowledge (The Planes) +47, Knowledge (Religion) +47, Listen +48, Move Silently +60, Search +32, Sense Motive +31, Spellcraft +47, Spot +48, Tumble +50, Use Magic Device +42, Survival +35.

Feats: Alertness, Awesome Blow, Cleave, Combat Casting, Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Dark Speech, Dodge, Great Cleave, Improved Initiative, Mobility, Power Attack, Silent Spell, Spring Attack, Still Spell.

Divine Immunities: Ability damage, ability drain, acid, cold, death effects, disease disintegration, electricity, energy drain, mind-affecting effects, paralysis, poison, sleep, stunning, transmutation.

Spell-like Abilities: Lupercio uses these abilities as a 20th level caster. The save DCs are 22+spell level. At will-Abyssal Might, Bull’s Strength, Blasphemy, Armor of Darkness, Chaos Hammer, Damning Darkness, Deeper Darkness, Darkbolt, Desecrate, Greater Dispelling, Greater Teleport, Sap Strength, Telekinesis, Unholy Aura. 3/day- Finger of Death, Shadow Walk.

Aura of Darkness (Su): Lupercio is surrounded by an area that causes severe curvature of light. Because of this, the area immediately surrounding him is very dark, making it impossible to discern his true form. In addition, it grants him 9/10th concealment (40% miss chance) at all times, as well as a +15 circumstance bonus on Hide checks. It automatically counters and dispels and light effect within 20 ft. of him, unless it was cast by a deity of rank 3 or higher. Any mundane light sources have their illumination radii cut in half while within the aura. The effect cannot be dispelled.

Aura of Sloth (Su): All creatures within 10 ft. of Lupercio must succeed at a Will saving throw (DC 32) or suffer the effects of a slow effect. The effect remains for as long as the creature is within the aura. If a creature leaves and then reenters, he must save again.

Summon Tanar’ri (Sp): At will, Lupercio can automatically summon 1d2 shadow demons. In addition, 5/day, he can attempt to summon 1 kelvezu (75% chance).

Summon Nightwalker (Sp): 3/day, Lupercio can automatically summon 1 nightwalker nightshade.

Summon Shadows (Sp): At will, Lupercio can summon 1d6+3 undead shadows.

Fear (Su): Lupercio’s cackle (free action) can invoke a fear effect (DC 33) at will.

Spells: Lupercio can cast spells as a 12th level cleric with access to the Chaos, Darkness, Evil, and Strength domains. 6/7/6/6/5/4/3; base DC=18+spell level.

Other Divine Powers
As a Tanar’ri Lord with the power of a demigod, Lupercio treats a 1 on a saving throw or attack roll normally and not as an automatic failure. He is immortal.

Senses: Lupercio can see, hear, smell, and touch at a distance of 3 miles. As a standard action, he can perceive anything within 3 miles of his worshippers, or any location where one of his titles or name was spoken in the last hour. He can extend his sense to up to 2 locations at once. He can block the sensing power of deities rank 3 and lower at up to two remote locations at once for up to 3 hours.

Virtual Divine Rank: Though not an actual deity, by virtue of his age, might, and influence over his layers of the Abyss, Lupercio is essentially a Rank 3 demigod. However, he does not gain power from those who worship him, nor does he have domain powers or spells. He cannot create avatars, and he does not have the immunity to destruction by mortals that most deity level beings enjoy. For all intents and purposes, excluding the above-mentioned attributes, as well as the SDAs he would otherwise have, he is treated as having a Divine Rank of 3. He can, however, grant spell of up to 3rd level to his would be clerics, or up to 4th level if he deigns to appear to them is person. His clerics do not gain access to domain powers or spells.

Hey there... cool write-up for Lupercio. If you're still around on the boards, I'd love to see your version of Lupercio's stats for 2nd edition...

I am a 2nd edition DM, and Lupercio may be a major villain the party confronts relatively soon. It would be very helpful if you could offer such stats, or any sources you have for the tanar'ri lord, as Faces of Evil from 2nd edition is the only place I have seen him listed in either 1st or 2nd edition.

Thanks for any help you might offer... very interesting write-up.

You know who else I think would be interesting to stat would be Rajaat of Athas (Dark Sun) who is beyond demi god status in power, but is not a deity himself, but could crush demi gods.
