Sadly no, I usually just write out a rebus (I may have done so once) or say what the rebus translates as, making the PCs take an int role perhaps to fully understand the message.

If you're looking for a resource for making rebuses, you could start with the old tv gameshow, Concentration. I did a search for rebuses and Concentration and came up with this site...

http://web.itctel.com/arlateo/gameshow/Concentration.html

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, he lists a few Concentration websites that have rebuses.

I don't know how much help this is, but it's a start at least.

Good Luck!

I just describe the rebus, rather than writing it out. Dabus rebuses have the advantage of being able to move, which things you draw on paper tragically lack.

For example, a dabus is describing a location. Above its horned head appears the toroidal shape of Sigil, and then the image of dozens of swarming insects moving about with no order or pattern. Then: a focus on just one of the insects, moving in an ever-shrinking circle growing darker with each cycle.

The PCs should be able to figure out that the dabus means Dark Spiral Lane in the Hive.

That would work, but my artistic abilities top out well below Darryl Hannah rolling around naked covered in paint. I have near zero creativity, thats why I gave up on designing my own adventures and work from modules.

Creativity is like anything else - it improves with practice.

In the meantime, you could get one of those really pretty tarot decks and have the dabus communicate by glyphing major arcana. That'd be puzzling enough.

Might also inspire some adventures that way, too.

Edit: I liked the Darryl Hannah thing. She should do that more often.
