How do you creative dm's explain away a vistani saying something akin to a riddle, or something else very cryptic, when they tell a pc's fortune?
I've a vistani character who I want to be able to enlighten the party a little bit, but of course, I don't want him to tell them everything the need to know

Know ahead of time what is going to happen, where it will happen, who will do it, and--most importantly--what's at stake.

Use symbolic language.

Study Nostradamus.

Look closely at a deck of tarot cards.

Use homophones (but sparingly).

Limit what you reveal to 2-3 vague facts. The more specifics you add, the fewer possible misinterpretations can be reached, and the greater chances are that things won't go as pre-ordianed.

And be prepared to refuse to answer follow-up questions and demands for clarification. Nothing makes prophecy less interesting than actually knowing what it literally means.

Yes, I've basically done that, but my question is, what am I supposed to have my npc say when he won't reveal more, or when he spouts off some cryptic rhyme?

Sometimes the mists reveal all...sometimes they reveal nothing. Whispers come to me in the night and melt away by day break. While there are clearly images here, not all images are clear. Begone!! You exhaust me.

I can do no more today, I risk great harm in helping you this much.

[why did you help us]

The knowledge burns in my mind and demands that I speak of it. If not to you, then who? Shall I wait for other strangers on the road, or tell the crow and let it take the burden? No. as the knowledge came to me so did you. Clearly you are meant to be one.
