I am trying to find the best place in the Flanaess to start several of the Necromancer Game modules dealing with the Temples of Orcus. I pulled out my old Bloodstone H series modules (remember those classics?) and used the information within to decide on the best place to have Orcus priests roam. I am currently thinking of using the area around Tenh and Stonehold because the setting was artic with mountains, water, and forests. Any of you have better ideas? The Necromancer Game modules I am speaking of are Rappan Athuk and The Tomb of Abysthor. I don't play in Forgotten Realms ever, so no need of pointing out locations in that area.

I'd go Ratik or Bone March hands down.

I also found in Dungeon mag #89 a temple of Orcus set within the Crystalmist Mountains. Sterich and the lands of Geoff being the targets. I thought this was a good idea as well.

I put Rappan Athuk on coast by the bay of gates, between Winetha and the gull cliffs, when I put it in greyhawk... as for the Stone Mountian Dungeon (Tomb of Abythsor) I marked it down as being in the southern spur of the rakers between the Bone March and the Pale, but never ended up using it.

Just as a point of interest, I converted the Temple of Evil Chaos from Keep On The Borderlands into an Orcus Temple, but I also placed it in the Pomarj, instead of the Yeomanry. I figured there were enough humanoids in the region to fuel a secret Orcus Temple.

Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but the current D&D Miniatures set (Archfiends) has an 'Aspect' of Orcus in it.

It's a VERY cool figure. An 'Aspect' is essentially an avatar, but of course you can safely ignore the stats and just use it however you see fit.

The figure can be bought individually at around $15 from various places online, although if you like using minis, I recommend just buying a few boosters and if you don't luck out and get him, you'll at least get a few rare figures that you could trade with someone online for him.

Here's a pic:

Btw, the mini looks better in your hand than it does in the pic. It doesn't have glossy paint like it looks like in the pic.

other locations that I placed in the flanaess from Necromancer games modules include:

The Sorcerers Citadel (from Demons & Devils) in the Lortmils south of courwood

Ra's Evil Grin (Modified to be more GH specific, also from Demons and Devils) on a tiny unmarked isle in the Lordship of the Isles

The Pit of Dispair (Demons and Devils) North Eastern Sea of Dust near where the Sulhauts run into the crystalmist/hellfurnaces

The Crucible of Freya (replacing Freya with Ehlonna) I placed in the North Kingdom near Edgefield

Actually there are a LOT of differences between an Aspect and an Avatar and their different power levels are not the most important differences.

An avatar is just annother place the deity currently is. A second physical manifestation of the same being, less powerfull than the original form, but with the same mind. Avatars are no beings with own minds/thoughts, they share the same minds/thoughts of the deity. Talking to an avatar is the same like talking to the deity herself, there's no "Bring me to your boos" when talking to an avatar, you are already talking to the boss. Divine minds are just able to multitasking in a way which we poor mortals can't imagine.

An Aspect is an individual creature in his own right. He's born out of the power of the greater being he resembles and has a similar personality, but actually has an own mind. He things, hears, feels, smells, ...., all for himself. The being whose power spawned the Aspect is not aware of the Aspect or his environment. The being can't see true the avatars eyes, doesn't learn what the avtar learns, .....

PS: Ho comes that Necromancer Games can use location from the Flanaess? Do they have a deal with WotC? Like with the ToH?

Necromancer's adventures do not include Greyhawk references. Orcus, of course, is a public domain figure (being derived from real world mythology/religion) and is used freely by Wizards, Necromancer, and other game publishers.

The locations given so far in this thread are conjecture given by the posters, or citations of examples of similar temples found in existing Greyhawk materials.
