I had the PCs playing animals for characters, and the whole concept revolved around the white man coming with his guns. It was interesting, cuz there would've been alot of RPing possiblity between the animals (the PCs) who had to save the day while avoiding the wrath of King Croc. It's a damn shame we never got to run it. I wish I remembered more about it now. My old notes must be floating around somewhere. |

A powerful (cursed, natch) artifact from the extinct 'hairless apes' of that domain could be retrieved from the jungle by explorers from the Core; unbeknownst to its finders, it's capable of transporting creatures between King Croc's realm and other (unsealed) Ravenloft domains. This could be part of a secret scheme by the crocodile-lord to kidnap human doctors and clerics from the lands of men, in the hope they might cure the disease that's slowly killing him. PCs would have to chase the rampaging Wildlands animals out of the Core, then follow them back through the artifact to rescue the abducted healers. The fun thing is, many Core natives might not even *recognize* the Wildlands animals as lions, apes, elephants, etc. King Croc's domain is an obscure one, and the typical Ravenloft commoner won't have heard of the strange wildlife there. Imagine an ignorant Tepestani villager's attempts to describe the "hellish horn-faced monstrosity, with a hide like rock and foul stench" that bulled its way through his cottage ... and imagine the players' surprise, when it unexpectedly turns out to be a rhino! (An intelligent, cunning, evil rhino that can out-think their efforts to trap it ... but hey, that's the OTHER surprise! ;-D) |
