I picked up my copy last night. Rather than go through it all, I'll point you to the Psionics Boards, where there are many discussions on the issue.

It is this WizO's opinion that the book rocketh mightily.

What's the fun in that? Then we can't hash and rehash the exact same arguments here!

I'm picking up my copy once I get off work (just a few more hours.....).

Dont feel weak Mach, I'm 30 here !

Btw, I dont have buy it already, but one of my friend (who bought it) told me there was no longer any psionic combat and that the psion type are just now sorcerer/wizard with different names... They seem to have only a stat modifier, no cons. modifier for psychometabolism per example... Yeah. I think I'm going to have a look a the "psy" board :D

Well, it looks like I'm a bit older than you guys. I'm 31, going on 32 this summer. My 15 year high school reunion should be next year.

Lessee, here's some tidbits.

Psionic combat is gone, but it looks like the attack and defense modes have become powers.

Psychic Warriors no longer get weapon specialization.

MAD is gone. Psions use Int, psychic warriors use Wis, and wilders use Cha. This is neat, because it covers all the mental stats.

Powers are no longer discovered in the same "spellcasting chart" of old. In those regards, you have one column that shows you the maximum level of power that you know. Another column tells you how many powers you know at all. So as you go up in level, you can learn any power up to your maximum power level.

I like this, and I find that it works better for conversions from 2e (don't snicker).

Overall, I'm really pleased with what I see. In some ways, I wish psionic combat was still around, but I can always use Mindscapes combat with this. Plus, the old combat modes are there in the form of powers.

I think this will be a neat resource for Dark Sun as well. Now, if we could convince the Athas.org guys to convert The Will and the Way. *slips a fiver* ;)

Happy birthdays all around! (I'll be 25 this summer's end) ;)

I got the XPH today and it rocks indeed..
I'll implement a lot of stuff into my Web-Project: unbodied (I'll cook-up a psionic "ceremony" to change a character into one) and thought slayers as dominated creatures.

Plus there's all those kewl cross-psionic spells at the end, perfect for DS!
Phrenic creatures scream DS to!

The Thrallherd PrC will be perfect for my project, pushing the frontiers of the domination power.

Also for the whole of the community: think of the new PC races presented in the book. Many people have imagined lands beyond the Sea of Silt, or elsewhere, that had weird races living there.
Considering that optic, there are four new races presented. The xephs and maenids are basically humans, so putting them aside we are left with the elans and dromites.
Elans are humans to, but a race spawning from a transformation, making them reminescent of villichi. They already have a place on athas as presented in Dragon/Dungeon as a creation of the Order. With some change in the fluff, why not?
The dromite's pic is awesome and alien, good enough for DS. They could be a Rebirth race that settled far lands and escaped the attention of the Champions, at least for a while. The Champions would have gotten to them eventually, but the Rebellion occured and voilĂ ! where' here!

Especially if you join EN World's Share the Love thread, and get an extra 10% off... At 30% off, it's a good deal. At 37% off (100 - 30 = 70. 10% of 70 = 7. 30 + 7 = 37%), it's a great deal...

Of course, you'd have to deal with getting a half-dozen offers every weekend. (One guy ordered about 15 books, for instance. Another guy ordered all the available Buffy and Angel DVDs. I sent out a discount on the Firefly DVD...)

Because all you folks are still too young to be secure in your ages. Based on the posts so far, it looks like I'm the old matron on this list at 36.

Please, someone reassure me I am not the oldest! (Yes, I am still young enough to be insecure.) ;)

This is a totally off note, but did anyone else notice that the two American archetypes were made into movies right in a row? Jesus and Manifest Destiny or The Passion and The Alamo.

Just a thought. ;)

Jesus was American??? I haven't cracked the spine on a bible in over ten years, but I coulda sworn he was from somewhere in the middle east!!

That Alamo thing was about Texans, not Americans!

Historically speaking, I believe that at that time Texas was called Tejas and it was its own country. And we all know that Texans aren't from America anyways. ;)

Hey little boy, don't play with guns! Especially not with mine! Give it back at once!

/me snaps the Beretta out from Nyt's hands

But we already saw the biggest effect of the new Psi Handbook: it makes everybody a whiner about age. It has to be a special mind-influencing effect radiating from that book. An evil artifact indeed... So everybody should prepare Clarity spells before going for that book... :D

Anyway does somebody know that the book's content will be in the SRD section on the Wizard webpage or not? Currently only the 3.0 version is there.

Yep, I think it was WizO_Drake who said it will be next month or something. Right now, the PHB, DMG, MM and ELH are in the SRD with the old PsiHB. So, the old PsiHB will get updated with the XPH when they get to it.
