My first edition Dark Sun Box Set (well, not first edition....it's for AD&D 2e....but it's not the revised box set...what should I call it ) arrived in the mail today. I just opened it up.

It contains:

A poster
A 1-page sheet of psionics errata
A softcover "rules" book
A softcover book..."wanderer's journal"
Two flip-books
A 16 page adventure...."a little knowledge"
A poster
Two maps

Is this what it should contain? I'm just curious because it came with two Rolemaster books in the box. Now, I'm not complaining about recieving two free out-of-print Rolemaster books, but I just want to make sure they didn't forget anything.

Thanks!

I went shopping about ebay a few years ago for the original boxed set for my soon to be co-DM. The first question I normally emailed about was whether or not the box still had the psionic errata. If that was in there still, it was a pretty good bet that the rest was as well.

BTW, out of curiosity, what two rolemaster books came with it?

The two books were Character & Campaign Law and Spell Law for 2nd ed Rolemaster. They've got Angus McBride cover art. I already had a copy of C&C Law, but I didn't have a 2nd ed Spell Law before (just a RMSS one). W00t!:D

HEh. I have a full set of 2nd Ed. Rolemaster books.... I kinda went wild back when it was released and bought every book they ever released, including the dozens of "Companion" books.... ok.... not quite dozens...

...plus I have a 1st Edition Spell Law. Never been taken from it's plastic-wrap. My old hometown game-store owner gave it to me for my High School graduation years ago....

Hey everyone,

about that 1e boxed set of Dark Sun:

Does it have a cloth map in it?

I've only got the Revised version and I remember my old DS Dm had a cloth map that came with his boxed set. I had thought that it came out of the 2e, but I learned otherwise.

Thanks

Yup. At the time, this was the absolute coolest thing I ever found in any RPG box set. I know mines packed away somewhere . . .

Hey Mach, in the 1st box, there was no cloth map man.

What do you mean it was in the 2nd? I got robbed!
Mine came with 4 books, 2 large maps, one small map of the tablelands (which I found redundant), and a DM's screen.
Err...I really wanted that cloth map. Maybe the cloth one only came with the 1st printing of that boxed set or something. Oh well.

Yeah, came with the early printings of the 2nd edition.

Heros book (main rules), wanderers chronical (or was it journal? 1st had one 2nd had the other), 2 paper maps, which you set top to bottom for a big picture, a smaller area map of the tablelands that was cloth (and man, I wish everything put out cloth maps like that, I still have mine. I have even thought of important just the map and that area of the world into a generic game, that way I could use the map without having to make it a Dark Sun game)
A little Psionics booklet with updated rules on the system and how to convert some of the powers from the previous Psionics Handbook.
and I think that was it. I learned later on that later versions of that box set no longer had the cloth map.. guess it was too expensive for them to keep it up.

and I still remember my buddy running us through those flip books from 1st DS, with the pictures on the side that we were able to see, LOL.

I know some of you will wince at this, but I 'aged' my cloth map by dragging it through muddy water, pouring coffee on it, and burning parts of the edges. I still have it, and it's still the coolest game 'prop' I have.:D

Did anyone else find the font, when transferred to the cloth map, to be unreadable? mine is at the bottom of the box, in perfect condidtion, as I can't read it much less use it.

Those pesky flip books were fun, if not a little bit poorly organized. Nothing ruins an adventure like telling your players during the first session "Ok now flip to page 38. What do you mean you saw 2 dragons fighting? There's no dragons in this adventure......ummmmmm"

That's about when I started flipping the pages for them behind my screen and laying them flat on the table to view.

Cloth map was cool, if not a bit fragile and hard to read.
