I think I've brought this up a few times: Dragon Orbs. To be honest, I've been using a combination of Xlor's Dragon Orbs (located here - I recommend checking it out) and my own. On reading through the 3.5 Psi Handbook, I had a new idea. Now this idea was inspired partly by information that could be found in that book, the regular version, Mind Lords of the last sea (you can probably see where this is going). The first part of this is background of how I came up with this and what I used to do so (so you can check my work, mostly). If you don't want to read this, just skip down until you see "The Meat of this Article."

Warning! I just came up with this while in the process of waking up, stuck somewhere between dreaming and being aware I was dreaming (this is where a lot of my art ideas come from, too). In other words, I'm cleaning the ideas up as I type: please bare with.

Okay, first, the things that the Orbs must do to stay within canon material (mostly in Troy Dennings Prism Pentad; they are mentioned in passing in the rules books, but what they do and how they do it is very vague - hence Xlor's web creation):

1) Must enhance psionic enchantments (or "Dragon Magic").

2) In my opinion, help out with psionics, although canon does not specifically support this.

3) A dragon needs to have an obsidian orb for each level of dragon metamorphosis spells except the first.

Now, what canon states. Pretty much the entirety of Dragon Orbs is covered on page 41 of Dragon Kings. Here's the juicy bits (Xlor, I promise to try to stay honest to the context, here):

1)
An Obsidian orb is not inherently magical, but it allows the dragon to cast psionic enchantments.

My site goes down either late tonight or early tomorrow morning, as I am starting my trek across the country tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have it back up in a month.
