It's been talk a bit at the beginning of the year on these board, but the following post quote (from another thread) and the Dragons-Dungeons mag. things just whispered me that we are far from seen over the internet and in the mind of the D&D community and gamers.

Fair enough.. to be honest, I didn't even know the Athas board existed until a Wiz-O bumped my post to here.

It's a good point. I recommend a junk-email campaign! Gooooooo SPAM! Yay!

Seriously? I have no idea - the link's there, provided by Wizards. If you do a google search on either "athas" or "dark sun", Athas.org is the first one on both lists. It's not that it's hard to find, it's that people aren't looking.

Someone should write a letter to Dragon/Dungeon saying how glad they are to see DS in print again , and then pointing people to athas.org for complementary material.

A letter to the magazines probably would give the greatest coverage while not being tremendously annoying.

Could follow the Ravenloft groups lead and start up a webzine similar to Quoth The Raven.:D

Check out the following link and look in the Library for examples. It couldn't hurt.

Agreed with Dawn.

It's more the fact that people are lazy and don't want to search and less the fact that we have enough coverage.

More mention in Dragon/Dungeon would have been nice though.

Would it be a good coverage if all material made by athas.org be put (per example) on rpgnow.com as free stuff?

I think that breaks all sorts of legal stuff.

Not to mention that I think they charge you for things you put up for free. I could be wrong on that though, but I don't think so.

Not unless there's a section in the agreement that specifies that the material must be hosted by the fansite in question; i.e. a clause that even in a roundabout fashion denies the ability to use mirror hosts.

All it takes is someone to look. Like it has been said before, athas.org is easy to find, but you have to open your eyes first.

After 3.0 came out I was hankering for some DS material, so I did a search. Lo and behold, Athas.org. I have been checking that site regularly now since then. Have the non 3.5 version in hardcopy (no longer work at a place where I can print all the stuff I want from the web), but I have the 3.5 stuff saved.

But like the guy who always prayed "Oh Lord, please let me win the lottery this week" only to finally be answered by the allmighty "Look, there's only so much I can do, Meet me half way and BUY A TICKET!"

Personally, I think mention in Dragon would be a nice plug. Or maybe if Wizards could do a little spotlight on their main page - though I know not what would be involved in getting that to happen..

As far as I know, there is a part of the agreement that directly states just that.

This can be found at the bottom of every page on the athas.org site:

This site is recognized by WotC as the Official Dark Sun site on the internet. Content created on the official website is considered to be derivative work (as it is based on the intellectual property owned by Wizards of the Coast). This means that fan-created add-ons (such as new net books, adventures, etc.) are jointly owned by both Wizards of the Coast and the creator; neither can do anything outside the official website without the permission of the other.

The important part would be:
jointly owned by both Wizards of the Coast and the creator; neither can do anything outside the official website without the permission of the other

Well isn't that a bummer.

So umm, wasn't that excatly what Wizards did? Put out material outside of th eofficial website? Did they have Athas.org's permission?
Does it work that way?

The cluase quoted referes to the material that we produce. Wizards can't use it without our permissions, because we own the copyrights to it. Likewise, we only have permission to use the IP freely under a certain set of circumstances.

WotC didn't use our material, and so none of that actually has an impact.
