1.) Are muls ever born out of voluntary unions between humans and dwarves?

2.) Do elflings (elf/halflings) exist in Athas?

3.) What would you get if you crossbred a half-elf and a dwarf? Something pretty similar to a mul? (Also, in my first ed. box set, it gives two ways to pronounce 'mul'. What is the generally accepted pronunciation?)

1)

Yup, but it's uncommon - dwarves (and most races on Athas) tend to stay pretty loyal to their species. Must be a holdover from the Cleansing Wars.

2)
Do elflings (elf/halflings) exist in Athas?

Yup, but are probably exceedingly rare. 3.5 foot tall forest cannibals and 7' tall desert marathon runners do not make great bedmates. Not unheard of, but certainly rare.

3)

You'd probably still get a Mul. There was an earlier topic about the pronounciation. Don't think we completely settled on it, but most of us said "muh-OOL." Technically, it's pronounced "Mule," since that's basically what they are (sterile half-breeds).

And in answer to your unasked question: Yes, dwelfs are not only possible, but highly likely. Everyone on this board is a dwelf.

How dare you, I'm a Mulelfling (Dwelf father, Human/Halfling mother)!

Oh, yeah: forgot about Xlor. Oh, and while were on the topic, Nyt's a Kreeniantling (thri-kreen, half-giant, and halfling. Man, was that a messy night).

I actually had a person play such a mul once. He was seen as sort of a symbol of freedom to other muls.

Too bad he turned on the other characters...

There is the example presented in the Prism Pentad series of books. Just like there is the example of a Elf/Halfling crossbreed (Elfling) found in the "Tribe of One" Trilogy.

Cool! What example?

Edit: Sorry if I'm asking a bunch of dumb questions. I'm building my collection up as fast as I can afford, which isn't too fast.

The idea of an Elfling just seems as absurd to me as the Dwelf. It actually sort of makes me want to start a fire and feed it with children...

Oh wait..

Well, the main Character in the "Tribe of One" series is an Elfling. Sure, he's also suffering from an extreme case of MPD as well, but he's still an Elfling. And th character Rkard in the Prism Pentad (the main set of novels for Dark sun) is a Mul that is from a Dwarf Cleric father and a Human Gladiator mother, who fell in love, got married, and had him. all very consentual. His mother even survived the birth, yet another rarity,

And the example in the Prism Pentad is of a elf/tarek crossbreed, in the Cerulean Storm.

Yep, that's another one. Crossbreeds tend to be more common on Dark Sun, IMHO than on other worlds. Maybe the whole dangerous, highly deadly aspect of Dark Sun makes people forget trivial details like species when they cuddle up at night... Of course, some of the species could really be an adventure..... The sheer dynamics of breeding with a Half-Giant is mind-boggling, while a Thri-Kreen is just plain wrong

Does sex with a kreen count as buggery?

(Now I am going to get another spank, I'm sure of it....)

Actually, Kam, that *almost* deserves a lightning bolt. To the rest of you, I'd suggest you watch it, or the Wiz_o's could do nasty things to you. Words chosen intentionally.

And I haven't had a good zap in such a long time, too....

And I'm normally so restrained when it comes to this kind of thing. All apologies, I suppose. No, really... :D

Hey! I didn't bring up the topic of half-races! Tarelf would be kind of cool.

...but not as cool as dwelfs!

Is anything as cool? Oh yeah, there is a lobotomy. And don't forget having your ears ripped off. That's cooler than a dwelf. ;)

Only if they're not pointy dwelf-ears.
