I was just wondering which one is more typically used: the 32 pager or the larger Gazetteer?

I ask this mainly because I've heard some negative comments about the content of the 32 page resource, and was curious as to why this was.

From what I've seen, the LGG is used more than the 32-pager.

thre is nothing wrong with the 32 pager... however the LGG has so much more information that if you are forced to choose between one or the other other the LGG is the better chioce, it has everything from the 32 pager plus a bunch more.

Exactly. The Dungeons & Dragons Gazetteer is a nice little device that provides a succint overview of the World of Greyhawk. But, the full-blown Living Greyhawk Gazetteer is 192 pages of dense history, culture, theology, politics and intrigue. A very valuable resource for the Greyhawk fan.

What I recommend is that you buy both, keep the LGG for your use as DM and pass around the D&D Gazetteer to the players to give them an idea of the setting. That's what I do and it works pretty well.

Yep, I did just that, CP. I have a few copies of the slim gazetteer and two copies of the thick LGG.

It might seem superflous, but it is nice to have a few copies of each floating around.

Thanx for the responses- and good idea using the 32 pager as a 'players' guide' of sorts...I think I'll do the same.

When I run a Greyhawk game I use a mix of products... I use the Living Greyhawk Gaz as a general sourcebook of the world, the D&D gaz as a player's primer and the GH98 material for the maps and more flavourful writing and text. The LGG is a boring read at times, but is very useful and the map is balls nasty, extremely awesome. I just prefer the writing in the 98 material even if it was horridly flawed for 2e gaming needs.

I have several copies of the LGG and at least one of the D&D Gazetteer. I allow the Players to use the latter and even got a copy of it for one of my players for Christmas one year. He uses that information quite often at the table.
