I am currently trying to make an NPC for a DS game I am going to be running. He is going to be a Caravan Master for House Wavir. I do not have stats (my dice are elsewhere, a few stat sets would be welcome. ).

I was going to put him at about lvl 13 or so. I was going to start him as a Rogue (he was a street urchin who got caught and adopted into the family). Was going to have him as a guard or an Outrider. I might throw in a level of wilder with the power of Empathy. Now the question I have is as his time as an out rider/guard, should I go ranger or fighter? I was going to have a few in those then go back to rogue with some of the trader feats from DS 3.5

Thanks for the help ahead of time

I'd say if you want to go ranger with him, give him a few levels in it followed by a few levels of Master Scout, one of Jon's PrCs.

I'd go with the NPC class of warrior, if anything, or just give him a few skill points in fighter skills (remember with NPCs, you can fudge a little with the skills).

In that case Expert is an option: skills custumability.
And fluff-wise, it does show that your character as been trained by a professional organization with ressources and competent people.

I was thinking of more coming through the ranks of guard to caravan master. Expert might be an option but I felt that someone out in the field would be more survival (ie combat) oriented if that helps.

Try this:
He started out as a petty thief and got caught (Commoner 1).
The House saw some potential and assigned him caravan duty to iron out some of his skills (Commoner 1/Ranger 3)
He found that he liked the challenge and progressed in the House, growing in responsibility (Commoner 1/Ranger 8)
The House recognized he could become a powerful leader but he lacked the negotiation/people skills to be really successful. they assigned him to a trading post for a couple of years to polish him up some (Commoner 1/Ranger 8/Rogue 3)
Now he's back doing what he loves, leading caravans across the wastes, with the skills he needs to handle the intrigues (Commoner 1/Ranger 9/Rogue 4)

at the beginning he was not even a successful thief, hence the commoner status. his training at the end was focused on diplomacy/bluff/sense motive/appraise/craft (management skills).

I like that build. Very nice. May keep that in mind. I did find a nice character buider at www.pathguy.com so am working with stats now. I will put the rough build out in a bit, once I get him done. Thanks again everyone for the help.
