What was your strangest moment in a Dragonlance campaign?

Yesterday, my group was playing in DL. We were in Palanthas(sp?). I'm running Gumba, Gully Dwarf Rouge 2. While at the docks, we are attacked by a small pirate crew, which consisted of a Troglodyte, some humans, a Bugbear, and an Ogre Mage. Gumba goes into the nearby tavern and grabs a lobster. While the Ogre is wailing on the party's Solamnic Knight, Gumba sneak attackes the Ogre with a thrown lobster for 8 damage. I also run a Lawful Evil Kender Necromancer, which speaks for itself.

I decided to run my group through the Keys of Destiny preview to introduce some of those unfamiliar with Dragonlance to the setting.

The party spit up when they reached Pergrin's camp, those without ranks in move silently stayed behind while the rest scouted out the camp. This left the Minotaur fighter, and a Centaur (no class levels since I use monster level progression from Savage Species) behind, since neither of them could move silently to save their lives. While I was busy with the sneaky characters disarming the traps to the north of the camp, the two tanks off camera started talking in character.

They took full advantage of the description of "Two feet of snow" being on the ground... i.e. they started a snowball fight. So while half the party is disarming traps and slitting the throat of Cole the young sorcerer that was found sleeping in his tent the two beast-men were throwing snow at each other.

I was splitting my attention trying to listen to the minotaur and the centaur while I was busy with the camp, and I secretly rolled listen checks for the gaurds on duty, and in what would become a theme for the night, the gaurds failed their rolls miserably.

Suddenly the player of the Centaur turns to me and asks, "Can I make a snowman?"
I'm a bit surprised by the question and respond, "What? Yeah, there's nothing stopping you."
The player corrects himself, "No I mean I want to know how well I make it, what would I roll?"
I blink and respond, "Untrained craft check,"
He rolls, and smiles, "Natural twenty on my craft snowman check."
I chuckle, and tell him, "Its not so much a snowman as it is a snow sculpture, your snowman is," as I change my voice into a high pitched angelic voice, "Glorious."
Smiling the player turns to the Minotaur player and proceeds to tell him "I have the greatest idea ever."

The centaur busys himself making snowmen as the minotaur makes a snow fort. One high enough and thick enough to provide them with cover.

The rest of the party heads back to pick up their meat sheilds and is stunned to run into the snowman squadron, and thanks to failed spot checks (this was the dead of night in the woods) they thought they were real people. Well the centaur and the kapak draconian in the party nearly stabbed each other before the party got safely back together.

They finalize their plans, and their plans are thus. Make large iceballs that the centaur and minotaur would hurl at the two gaurds to the southwest to get their attention, they would then fall back into the woods, hopefully getting most of the camp to chase after them, where they'd run into the snowmen, using ranged weapons the party would try and thin the enemy numbers while they fired at the snowmen.

Their plan worked fairly well, Pegrin's second in command went in after the party with almost all the bandits. Only Pegrin himself and one thug remained behind at camp. Failing their spot checks (every one of them) they thought the snowmen were real. Yet only the second in command had a crossbow which he wasted no time fireing vainly at snowmen. concentraiting their fire the party took out the retreating thugs one at a time. Eventually they just broke into an all out run out of the woods. Only two ran back out of the woods, one of the thugs and Pegrin's second in command.

Pegrin and his lone thug were standing in the middle of the camp with their backs to the fire. When the two came running back out of the woods and the one thug was killed by crossbow bolts before he made it to the firepit the last nameless thug decided to run for his freaking life while Pegrin and his second stood their ground. One charging critical hit later Pegrin was scewered on the minotaur's head with only one hp left, and the centaur bull rushed Pegrin's second into the firepit, where he burned mightily.

The minotaur made short work of Pegrin's last hit point, while the centaur ran down the last fleeing thug. But instead of killing him like I expected, the centaur took him prisoner, to take back to Pashin with them (where he convinced the frighted thug to give up his wicked ways and got him a job as a stableboy in Pashin's horse markets. The thug was very scared of the centaur and minotaur).

For all this I gave the centaur and minotaur 2 free ranks in craft snowsculpture at the end of the session. Not bad for the first night of the campaign eh? My group keeps bugging me 'when is KoD coming out' because they want to continue their adventures (we've finished the preview chapter). Finally I can tell them its coming.

lol

That sounds like an absolute blast! Kudos to your players for being creative in character, and to you for keeping up with it all.
