Don't know if this has ever been covered, but exactly how large are the three moons of Krynn? I don't mean in a concrete sense (e.g. 5,000 km), but rather in terms of their size in Krynn's sky.

From my understanding, Earth's moon covers 0.5 degrees of the sky. How many degrees would each of Krynn's moons cover?

Lunitari and Nuitari are smaller than our moon, while Solinari is about the same size.

What source did you get these conclusions from?

Solinari is the largest moon of the three.
Lunitari is the second largest moon.
Nuitari is the smallest moon.

How we know this is the way the Night of the Eye is described.

Nuitari is the puple(sp) in a red eye.

Nuitari is the puple(sp)
Lunitari is the iris (if i have my eye-olgy correct)
Solinari is the big white part of an eye (can't remember the name) lol

How much of the night sky they take up i don't know. Nuitari i would suspect nothing at all since most people can't see it.

I am familiar with the Night of the Eye and the relative sizes of the three moons to one another.

What my 2nd question referred to was Ferratus' statement that Solinari is the same size as our moon (as it appears in our sky). Where did this info. come from? One of the annotated editions of Legends and/or Chronicles? Chats with W&H? Fan-based speculation?

No idea. My own personal impression of it is that Lunitari is the size of Earth's moon, with Solinari being a little larger and Nuitari being smaller. Brimstone's brought the incredible trouble all of this lunar orbit stuff would bring up if it were in place around Earth, but it's fantasy so you usually end up giving it a little more slack. Besides, three moons which line up to form an eye? How cool is that?

Cheers,
Cam

This was my thinking, too.

Mostly this comes from Elmore's painting on the cover of Night of the Eye...or at least, I agree with his depiction. Not sure if that's what I thought before I got the book or not.

The size of the moons in the sky, is determined by their distance to the planet.
So another question could be:
Do their "sizes" chance when they re-manifests in the 5th age?

I agree with Brimstone and Cam Banks, but that is just intuition, I have nothing to back it with. I'll have to check up on this...

The Night of the Eye is mentioned in many books, it's a truly cool sounding phenomenon! :D Especially if you're a Wizard of High Sorcery ;) It's mentioned in most of the DL core books that have been released over the years too.

But after looking through 3 different books (DLCS, TotL and the orginal PHB) I didn't notice anything relavent to sizes either.

One of the reasons I am curious to know is that in my current campaign I've got a Red Robe Wizard, and as such he is always intent on the phases of the respective moons. He hasn't directly asked how big the moons appear, but it struck me that the conjunction of the Night of the Eye would appear much more impressive if the three moons were all larger in appearance in Krynn's sky than our own moon is in Earth's sky.

Well...we know for sure that the size difference has to be (from largest to smallest): Solinari, Lunitari, and Nuitari because they look that way in the sky. Since they line up in the shape of the eye, we know that Solinari is further out than Lunitari which is further our than Nuitari...which means not only do they appear in the right order (from smallest to largest) but that the two larger ones are most likely even more massive than the appear compared to poor little Nuitari.

I'm just glad they finally fixed the orbital speed of the moons from DLA. :D

(EDIT: Oh, and by the way...the first person to say, "It's a fantasy world and they're gods, they can appear however they want," is getting a super-wedgie. I don't care how...but I will find out where you live and drive/fly there to give it to you personally. Go ahead DH...I dare ya. I'm gonna be there in 4 weeks...so just try me. )

Yeah, What is it, Nuitari 8 days, and Solinari at 36 must be MASSIVE! lol

*is sad to admit he never used the moons for anything before*
