Ideas for Dothion?

So I just started a new Planescape campaign recently, and it's been going well... but I'm finding myself at a bit of a loss for ideas now. The problem is that the players are presently on Dothion, the civilized layer of Bytopia, and it is a hella boring place. I've looked at a bunch of books, and outside of the whole Order of the Planes-Militant thing, there's just not a lot of interesting conflict there to involve the players in. Bloody neutral good NPCs! So I thought I'd better solicit ideas: any suggestions for noteworthy things one might encounter while travelling through Dothion?

I might as well use this opportunity to point out the little web page I made to introduce the players to the campaign, which includes a complete (I think?) list of 3E monsters who were previously statted in Planescape material, sorted by CR and the book they appear in. Corrections and comments welcome! :D

Yet another hand-rolled Planescape 3E conversion...

I thought your website was cool. Great reference list!

Here are some thoughts for encounters:

The great mole Urdlen raids and terrorizes a gnomish community with his minions. Maybe spriggans, or brain moles, or giant fiendish dire moles. Or even a fiendish Bulette.

Formians could invade and try to convert the area to their idea of law & order. Maybe they are using force, or maybe it is an army of proselytizing Formian evangelists trying to convert by their speech.

Maybe some Slaadi are on holiday, hanging out in Dothion & trying to start some trouble.

They might encounter a planar dragon of some sort, good or bad. Maybe an Oceanus dragon, or a Radiant dragon, or one of the gem dragons. It could also be an evil dragon that was awol from the lower planes.

The gnomes of Dothion might be organizing to make Dothion a "gnomes only" homeland. They might be using persuasion or force to try and kick all non-gnomes off the layer.

An inevitable might show up to try to enforce some sort of law on the players.

Gnomes experimenting with science and tinkering with machines might be causing a layer instability; the lack of faith might be peeling the area off to fall towards Mechanus or the Outlands or elsewhere, or just undermining the cohesion of that part of the plane in some way.

What if things were falling down from out of the sky? Things that originated from Shurrock? What might be the story behind that?

That's about all I can free associate at the moment. Hope it helps.

"Hmmm... It is in the idea of this basher, to have some gnome need a few.....parts. The gnome berk is slowly going barmy since awhile ago, he decided to pay a visit as a voyeur of the Blood War. Alas, a Tanar'ri came up from behind and kinda....infected the gnome with something. This something slowly turns the berk into a catalyst for trouble.

He's on the outside himself, and his alignment hasn't for all appearances changed. But the gnome has a sudden desire to perform an arcane experiment. One that requires the hero's to fetch a few things. Not sure what, but they could be all over Bytopia, or a few things from some the other "tame" Upper Planes.

But then comes an odd request, bringing back the head of a Baatezu. Strange no? What happens when all ingredients come together? A Tanar'ri invasion by a makeshift portal? Planar corruption on an epic *gag* scale? A weapon created to slay Lawful berks?

You decide, this plane-touched is gonna have some bub now."

Set an Adventure around the Wandering Treant. It's a Treant and an Inn that wanders near Yeoman. There's no end to what you could do with it!

If you can get a Back issue of Dungeon #100 look at the Adventure Beast of Burden. Replace the Beast with the Wandering Treant (or use as/is)!

The BBEG is a CE Hound Archon (from a Mirror of Opposition). Such an easy disguise to wander about Dothion unmolested! He's got a bunch of Gnoll flunkies, but you could easily replace them with Khaasta, Reaves, or other Planar bandit races (though gnolls kinda work for it!).

Going with Fringe's idea, you could have the corrupted gnome be discovered by renegade followers of Ilmater, who know of the planned tanar'ri invasion and yet are not doing anything to prevent it. Sometimes becoming a martyr takes a little looking the other way.

First of all, read Planewalker's Bytopia site . Lots of damned brilliant sites there. And also lots that I made up.

Also it can be a place where celestials live who have been exiled from Elysium and the Seven Heavens. Not fallen ones - just those who have been rejected for crimes against law and peace (but not Good), who may have lost secrets unimaginable by those staid celestials who have kept to tradition.

It's also a place of strange alliances. The plane itself is an alliance of raw wilderness (Shurrock) with complete cultivation (Dothion), an alliance that strangely works for the benefit of everyone. The same pattern is repeated throughout the plane. Think of the weirdest partnerships you can think of - demons and angels, githyanki and illithids. They'll be here, working toward the greater good.

Also don't forget the gnomish emphasis on illusion and trickery. That will be well represented in Dothion as well. Despite the plane's lawful taint, not everything the PCs encounter will be what it seems.

This is from MIMIR.NET

Apparently Xib The Bleaker stumbled upon Some very odd things in the underground of Bytopia.
