Do you run a patchwork Dragonlance campaign using any and everything from other products or are you a Dragonlance purist that believes in playing Dragonlance as is ?

Little from column A little from Column B

I try to keep the campaigns I run pretty close to the official material, however I occationally use campaign generic material I see elsewere, or throw in some homebrew. While I'm not an utter purist I run it closer to the side of official than not.

That is how I am. The furthest I would take it from the official Dragonlance character classes is some of the classes in the MHB. For instance, I think Cam was using the Favored Soul class from the MHB.

Although that is a different class it is not a dramatic change from the official DL classes thus I would allow it. The way I see it sometimes you just have to tell players that think of outrageous stuff to play NO.

Mine is a little of both. I only add monsters (All I really buy now is monsters books) but I have made changes to the setting to reflect my own ideas.

I add some things...very few if any....most times I add things after carefully weighing theoption...seeing if it would fit in the campaign....for example....the prestige classes and feats found in Complete Warrior....that is the kind of stuff I like to add....But occasionally I find something that is questionable...like the thread where I suggested Warforged in Dragonlance...What I generally do is come here and get some informed opinions to add to my own....then I generally go with the info I get....Like the info I got in my Warforged thread....Im probably not going to allow the character to use that race in my DL game...But the only way I will is if it is a single entity...not a whole race....and it is most likely a gnome invention....thats the only way.

So...I'm from column a and b as well

Whatever makes it fun for everyone involved. If you want to include something that normally isn't used in DL, there's a myriad of ways to do so, and its not as if you have to worry about the plausibility of the addition. It is, after all, a fantasy world.
That being said, i think it does pay to try and dovetail the edition into the existing DL mythos to preserve the DL feel. The section of the DM screen booklet covers this nicely for monster additions.

Bingo.

I tend to mix it up a bit. I'll use some novel and gaming background to help set up the backdrop of my DL games, but I try to leave things to where my players can write the future.

When The Second Generation came out, I used the Knights of Takhisis as the backdrop for my DL game - which became the foundation for War of the Dark Lance.

When Dragons of Summer Flame came out, history diverged from my game, but I went along my own course anyway, which proved to be quite fun.

My buddy Dave imported a lot of materials into his old game, including Wheel of Time, Beastmaster, and Highlander. He had this knack of blending things together nicely, and he really did well with getting that DL feel.

Go with whatever works for your group. If you're into continuity, take the "purist" approach. If you like some different twists and turns, try something non-standard. Add in new classes, maybe some new races. Drop in some elements from some other settings. Give alternate history a try.

Whatever the case, just have fun.

I'm mostly a purist, which is making my current campaign difficult... our goal is to liberate Silvanost (the party is 5 Silvanesti, a half-Qualinesti and a Human... yes... a Human... only reason he lasted this long is because two of the elves are Wizards of High Sorcery and he's on his way to becoming one himself. (So we'll have a White, Red and Black :D).

I just have a vision of what this would be like. The White and Black Robes are both arguing, then the Red Robe steps in, says something clever about magic, and all three sit down to discuss magical theory.

This could be interesting in the heat of battle.

Fighter: "Uh, guys? A little help here? Guys?!"

Red Robe: "Well you see, my dark friend, the key to casting is in how you shape the guano between your fingers, A little ball works well enough, but if you really want an effective fireball, try rolling it into an egg shape."

Black Robe: "Really, I hadnt even thought of that. Amazing! Say, either of you ever had trouble with divination? I just cant seem to get my scrying to work out."

White Robe: Funny you mention...That's my specialty...Once we get back to town Ill let you have a gander at my notes....We'll see if we can't mend your pesky problem. In the meanwhile, Let's see your metamagic methods...I've never seen someone throw a fireball with near as much power as you do....I want to learn that!

Fighter: ~Looks at Draconian~ That's the third time this week.

I take what I like and toss the rest. If I see something that can enhance the campaign, I add it regardless of what is "officially" part of this campaign world or that campaign world.

I know this will not be a popular statement, but I can't stand the 5th Age and in our campaign we will be running an alternate future to what was written in the books.

The 5th Age does seem kind of empty but I guess that leaves more for the PC's to build up.

lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice, I'm going to print that and show them, they'll die laughing.

The Red is a usuless human, only tolerated because he's coming a wizard instead. ;)

Problem is, our Red Mage was a fighter first, so his grasp on magic isn't so strong as ours. The White is a Wiz4, White Robe4, the Black is a Wiz4, Black1, Pale Master 3 and the Red is like... Fighter4/Wiz4 one his way to becoming a Red now.

The White is constantly keeping the Black from blowing up or otherwise harming other members of the group. Our newest PC, an Annoited Knight (Book of Exulated Deeds)/Fighter/Cleric of Kiri Jolith's first action upon seeing us was to try and turn the Black Robes Giant skeleton (Stone Giant, didn't know they were EXTREMELY rare at the time). He failed though. The Black Robe also kicked our Ranger's Wolf companion (who has since been flattened by an ogre in battle) when it kept missing it's attack rolls. He's a rather... disaggreable fellow.

It's a very intersting party, we have no actual 'fighter', of course our ranger is like Legolas, an elven gatling gun. We're just rounding over Thorabardin and headin' toward Tarsis.
