#1zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 17:51:32 | Hello there... I have never played in the Dark Sun setting in any edition, and I don't really know much about it besides the basics... it seems cool, but Planescape is really much more my flavor. That being said, I happen to have acquired a copy of this 'The Ivory Triangle' boxed set, a copy that's still shrink-wrapped, apparently never having been opened. I was wondering if it was generally considered to be a good set, and what it would be worth now, if anything... TIA for any helpful replies! |

#3Shei-NadMay 06, 2004 19:35:10 | It is a nice product, and brand new is pretty cool. However, since everything dark sun is discontinued (or actually, uncontinued with Dragon Magazine ;)) it isn't worth as much as it would have before. I'd still give at least 10 bucks for it, even if I have the .pdf version. If you want a better idea, you could browse ebay. It has several dark sun products |

It's a pretty good add-on, but probably should be a later addition when you are ready to expand out. As far as the order of books you should buy, I recommend this: 1) First Dark Sun boxed set (if you can find it) 2) Veiled Alliance 3) Earth, Air, Water, Fire 4) Second Dark Sun boxed set 5) City State of Tyr (depending on where you start adventuring) 6) Ivory Triangle ...Whatever you want or whatever you think you need. A great book is Valley of Dust and Fire, but if you follow the Athas timeline, three quarters of the book is rendered useless. |

I would have thought that discontinued product + people still interested in it (as evidenced by this board) would = HIGHER value, not lower. But like I said, I'm probably missing something. :P If you want a better idea, you could browse ebay. It has several dark sun products I probably will do that, but seeing as how I already frequent the WOTC boards, I thought I'd drop a line here. Thanks for replying, all of you. Also, to avoid confusion, I'm probably -not- going to get into Dark Sun myself... I'm looking more to see what I could sell it for, if anything. If it goes to someone who will make better use of it than I, and I get some spare cash, that's the best of both worlds. However, if its value is too low, I probably will end up just opening it and mining it for ideas in my own campaign worlds, if nothing else. |
