Holy Days

Okay...question for you folks in the know.

In the DLCS...every god (almost) has a holy day in the year...or set of days. They aren't always the same for every priest...but that's usually addressed.

Since I want to get this calendar thing done...I've been going through all the books with dates...and had some questions about some of the DLCS holy days.

Kiri-Jolith:
Day of the Hunt...it says the start of the seasons...does this mean on the 21st (days of the soltices and equinoxes) or does this mean on the 22nd? I was thinking the 22nd...just because the priests might be important for the actual first days...and therefore probably shouldn't be away from where they're supposed to be. But it doesn't specify.

Reorx:
Okay...this one is kind of confusing. It sounds like they're describing Forge Day...which according to all other sources is April 19 (not March). And...it seems the DLCS calls it the Harnkeggerfest...which is actually another festival of the dwarves (kinda like Oktoberfest) in February. Could someone clear up where I'm confused on this?

Shinare:
Day of Hearing...what day is this? It seems to be a set day for the whole order...but no date is given.

Sirrion:
What day is Eternal Day?

Chemosh:
Does his holy day have a name? (Sept 21)

Hiddukel:
What day is the Day of Bartered Souls?

Sargonnas:
Does their holy day (the 1st of Argos) have a name?

Paladine:
He's the only god missing a holy day that doesn't specific given reason why. Was it forgotten, or does he not have one? (Takhisis had one...)

Thanks!

Zeboim's holy "day" described in the DLCS is called the Day of Storms, IIRC.

There was a festival called the Shinarion in the novel _The Dark Queen_ (I think that's the book); don't know if it's the same thing as the Day of Hearing or another holiday.

Night of the Mantis was described and dated in _Leaves fm the Inn..._ or _TotL_, along with several other holidays and customs. If I had either of those or my old custom-made ghetto DL calendar with me I'd look it up, but I don't. If you could get your hands on those you'd probably have some useful stuff for your calendar.

Thanks!

I actually did find the "Day of Storms" and "Night of the Mantis" last night in the History of the Dragonlance Saga. But the others still ellude me.

Well...if it doesn't give the day of the year (which it probably won't, since it's a novel)...I'm afraid I'm still stuck.

But I'll check it out.

Hey guys...I'd really like to get some feed back on this. Who ever wrote the section on the Gods. Any sort of "Hey, I got those dates from " or "Yeah, I made those up" or "Well, I kinda picture that they'd be on ." It would be greatly appreciated.

(I get one of these "bumps" every 48 hours...so here's the first one) heh heh

Two things. First, this information will in all likelihood get more coverage in the Holy Orders of the Stars book, given the nature of that sourcebook. Second, I wouldn't be surprised if no actual date was ever set for many of those holy days - indeed, especially with the chaotic or neutral-aligned faiths, the date might change from year to year. It's frustrating to somebody writing up a calendar, but great for a DM who just wants to hold the Great Night of Klubar on the very night the heroes arrive in Tarsis.

Cheers,
Cam

I kinda figured it would...but it seems that it is probably going to be some time before that book comes out.

And there are several holidays that do change from year to year or community to community. They are all mentioned as such in the DLCS. But the ones I mentioned above are the ones that seem to specify a specific day of the year that is holy to that god (especially Sirrion's day for re-lighting the eternal fire).

But really, if you look at the list...Shinare, Hiddukel, and Sirrion are the only ones that I can't even begin to guess at the date. Oh...and Paladine's lack of a holy day (only Morgion doesn't have one...and it states why he doesn't...which along the same lines I could buy why Chemosh's Holy Day doesn't have a name) I could see that Shinare and Hiddukel's Holy Days could even be cleric specific. But Sirrion's I would think would need to be one specific date.

The others are questions about names and clarifications. Things that I thought could probably be brought to light by the author or authors.
