I just ordered the Key of Destiny module (should be getting it in 2-3 days, hopefully), but am eager to begin running. I have noticed on other threads that the adventure The Sylvan Key in the dragonlance campaign setting is the preclude to it. Can anyone confirm this? I want to begin running ASAP, but am worried I will not get the module in time. I checked the DLCS and the Sylvan Key adventure but found no mention of it being a preclude to the Key of Destiny.

If anyone could provide me with more details, I would be very appreciative.

KoD starts immediately where Sylvan Key leaves off.

Does it say this in KoD somewhere, or by the Sylvan Key? I checked both the beginning of Sylvan Key and the ending, but find no mention of KoD. Im sure that they connect, Im just trying to seek more information on how, necessarily. For example, is there anything I need to know before I get my KoD, or can I run the Sylvan Key as is?

Yes, Sylvan Key is the prequel to Key of Destiny. It sets up a few things necessary for the KoD adventure.

You can run it as is. the intro to KoD tells you that you should run sylvan veil first. (psst, the key in Key of destiny is the same key as the key in Sylvan Key... ;) )

The events in the Sylvan Key take place in the same town and surroundings that kick off Key of Destiny. Infact the introduction to chapter one mentions that the books assumes that you have played though the Sylvan Key. And as Tal has stated, the Key in the Sylvan Key is the item that starts the whole adventure.

As the author of "The Sylvan Key," I'd love to say you HAVE to play through that adventure--but in truth it's just a mecanism for getting the oft-mentioned "key" in the hands of the party. There are many other ways to do it, though "The Sylvan Key" is already there waiting for you if you own the DLCS.

I would reccomend running "The Sylvan Key" since it was originally meant to be the prelude to "Key of Destiny".

It was a pretty good story, although we could have done without the corny behind Herald, and was very easy to run as a DM.
