Well Met:

I recently started playing again after a 14 year break. My 12 year old son and I just got the Living Greyhawk Gazateer and ... WOW... It looks even more interesting than ever... but whatever happened to Idee?

I've seen a lot of references to it in the descriptions of the other Iron League Realms, but... did the Scarlet Brotherhood just wipe it off of the map?

Wasn't Idee a country? Or am I that old?

Pretty much...few years ago Greyhawk was hit by a continent-wide war. During that war, the Brotherhood pretty much gained control of the iron league, seizing control of the Sea Princes, the Lordship of the Isles, Onwal, and Idee. They've had some reverses since thein; the Sea Princes fell into anarchy, and I think South Provience overran Idee somewhere in there.

Thanks. Maybe it's coming back to me, but wasn't Idee just north of the mountain range kind of northeast of Irongate? I think so.

Idee was exactly where Naerie is today. Naerie is Ahlissa's name for the region that was once Idee.

The County of Idee - formerly a member of the Iron League - was subverted and taken over by the Scarlet Brotherhood in 584 CY, in the closing stages of the Flanaess-wide Greyhawk Wars (582-584 CY). It wasn't alone - The Lordship of the Isles had become an SB puppet some months before and the Free State of Onnwal was taken over at the same time. Only Irongate and Sunndi resisted the SB's machinations among the members of the Iron League.

The Greyhawk Wars also saw the Great Kingdom of Aerdy fragment into a number of successor states. One of these was the old South Province, which became Ahlissa under the rule of the archmage Reydrich (Hertzog Chelor III's former court mage). Reydrich set about magically slaying the Scarlet Brotherhood's "herdsmen" in Idee and Onnwal, in preperation for invasions of both. In the event, his forces only managed to drive the Brotherhood out of Idee before Reydrich himself was apparently assassinated by the Brotherhood.

A oligarchy of generals (presumably including General Reynard) took over rule of Ahlissa and consolidated the conquest of Idee. The SB got at all but three of them before the survivors signed a treaty with Prince Xavener of Kalstrand, forming the United Kingdom of Ahlissa, which consists of the old South Province, Idee, the southern heartlands of Aerdy (as far north as Rauxes more or less) and Almor as far north as Innspa and as far west as the Harp River. It also claims the Grandwood, the Adri and the ruins of Medegia. Xavener (now Overking Xavener), granted the rulership of Idee to Prince Barzhan Haxx, the leader of a minor Aerdi noble house. Idee was renamed the Principlaity of Naerie and is now a (more or less - depending on who you are) loyal part of the United Kingdom of Ahlissa.

For the source material for this have a look at the From the Ashes boxed set, the unpublished Ivid the Undying supplement (just type it into Google- it's all over the net), The Adventure Begins supplement and the LGG.

Though it isn't canon - you might be interested to know that in Living Greyhawk (current year 594 CY), Onnwal and Sunndi have signed a treaty (the Naerie Compact) with Ahlissa recognising its claim to Idee in return for passage of Sunndian troops across Naerie to Onnwal to aid the war there against the Scarlet Brotherood (which hasn't been going well since an army of Pomarji orcs waded in on the side of the Brotherhood in late 593 CY).

Hope this is of help...

Hi all-

Here's the link for the files at CanonFire.com....
http://www.canonfire.com/htmlnew/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=15
The whole purpose of CanonFire's Downloads is to make it easier for Greyhawk Fans to find the sources that are out there that make Greyhawk a better world. Not a better world as WotC see's it, but a better world the way players and DM's see it, with sources easier to find.
That link will take you directly to the area to find all the sources for Ivid the Undyring.

Montand/Taras also wrote a pile of great articles about the southern Great Kingdom, in a region he calls the Sud Graufult: see
