Ok , it may not seem the right place to write about that, but i also think we can post about that on any forum, because it's involving everybody.
60 Years ago -1 day, thousands of Americans, Canadians, British, and others died in Normandy, thousand of miles away from their home.
Because lot of people posting here may have grandparents or family who have fought and maybe died for freeing people they don't even know about, and because i am french, i want to tell them i will forever respect and honour their country.
Moderator may not like, i don't care, but from the bottom of my heart, as millions of french people, Thank you.

Great sentiment that is not at all inappropriate.

Let's not forget that while we play at stopping evil in a fantasy world, there exists a need to prevent and oppose evil in our own world. Just as it was then, so it is today.

We should never forget the sacrifices of those who came before us, as well as the burdens that are borne by those who serve to this day. Thanks for the well wishes Makoma.

Thoughtful sentiment, Makoma. Thanks for starting this profound thread. I'll add my thanks to those in uniform, past and present. Thanks for serving on the forward edge of freedom all over the world where duty has called. And, thanks to the families at home, for their patience and support of our uniformed services from all countires who banded together to beat back tyranny wherever it threatens.

Interesting that D&Ders would automatically understand the concept, sacrifice, and ultimately, the significance of D-Day.

"I didn't play D&D all those years and not learn something about courage!"

I imagine a lot of those young guys would have been RPGers, too, that is, when they weren't out getting french pootang.

Though he didn't live to see the 50th or 60th celebrations, my grandfather would have been overjoyed to see the outpouring of respect for what he and his companions accomplished.

Thanks for making the world a better place, guys.

And thanks to France as well. Landing on the beaches of Normandy to liberate France (and the rest of Europe) was a sacrifice we had to make for our oldest of allies. I know some Americans make alot of jokes at the expense of the French, moreso since the events of the last few years. While I may not be their biggest fan I have always said that we owe the French a tremendous debt, one that we haven't even come close to paying off (although D-Day was a significant re-payment). I honestly believe that if it wasn't for France the USA would not exist in its current form. They stood up for us in our infancy during our Revolution against the British and they gave us a hell of a discount on the Louisiana Purchase (coincidentally 200 years ago this year). And lets not forget our most enduring symbol of freedom, democracy and the American Spirit embodied by their gift to us in the Statue of Liberty. The sacrifices Our Greatest Generation made can't be appreciated enough for France, the USA or the rest of the world for that matter.

Vive Le France!
God Bless America!
Peace on Earth!

And just so this post meets CoC standards, IMC we often equate the Shield Lands with France, to be liberated from the clutches of their Iuzian oppressors by storming the beaches at Admundfort.

Really touched by what i've read on this post.
And , as Loremaster Marvin mentioned, i think most of rpg players (mature ones, ok) understand the concept of sacrifice and courage.
Last time i've seen "soldier Ryan" (i don't know the exact title in english), i tought, at the intro, when the soldiers prepare to land on the beach in the flat boats: woaw.... These guys were really MEN. Half of them knew they will die before to shoot a single bullet, and they have done it.
The kind of heroes i am not sure we still have today, because they were guys like you and me, thrown in hell for the most important cause, Freedom.
And sometimes , when i Dm, i want my players to realize and appreciate, and fight for, the concept of liberty and courage, not only for xp. A real hero will give a scroll of raise dead for saving an humble peasant children who have been killed by his fault, even if it's his only scroll. I speak for Good aligned characters, of course, but i am not interested to play with CN or evil players.

Thanks all for your reactions, and God bless Earth.
