Dead magic zones on Athas?

Would there be any dead magic zones on Athas? Perhaps on Athas, a "dead magic zone" is a stretch of ground so defiled no more life energy can be ripped from the soil? Or could dead magic zones be artificial, zones created by, say, druids or earth clerics, magically secured against arcane magic tapping the land?

Yea, hundreds of miles of them (the dead lands).

A dead zone on Athas is anywhere there is no plant life to draw magical energy.

Magic on Athas does not work the same as on Faerûn, there's no Weave to damage. Normally, you can't damage a place enough that it won't conduct life energy to you anymore. Energy will flow from outside the defiled area and come to you anyway.
Although, one could defile an entire city and because of the city's walls the wind would not be able to disperse the lifeless ashes, ensuring that no wizard could gather energy there until the stuff was scraped-off the ground and the land given a chance to revive. But other uses of magic would still work there, like taking a potion or using a wand.
So its not a real dead-magic zone.

In an extreme case, its possible to kill all of the spirits of the land in an area, forcing them to manifest and killing them, plus the plethora of smaller spirits, and end it all with a big finish of defiling the entire area's plant life. The result would be even worst than the first scenario: except for the pure elements like earth and air and sun, there would no longer be anything there to provide a wizard with power. But other uses of magic would still work there, like taking a potion or using a wand. To solve this one, I would guess it'd take an avangion or advnaced being-druid relocating far-away spirits to inhabit the lifeless zone.
