So, in lack of actual Dragonlance miniatures...I was wondering what minis (if any) you all are using for your DL games?

Personally...I have a few of the old Ral Partha DL minis...but they are mutch to valuable for me to let any of my players get their grubby hands on them.

What I do use though is a bunch of plastic minis. From DragonStrike and Hero's Quest mostly. All painted, of course (one lonely Spring Break many many years ago) :D

But lately I've been picking up a lot of the new WotC plastic minis. About 20 boxes of Dragon Eye (probably the most DL related...not only because of the Kapaks and Baaz, though), a few Harbingers and Archfiends, and 4 (so far) Giants. Of these, I think I've got all the mini's I need to accurately portray everything in the Key of Destiny. Not my original intention...but a nice outcome.

Of the main things I was thinking about, the Dretch seems to be a good match for the obesse ghast in the sewers of Pashin. There are several ghouls, the yellow ochre, and baaz that are automatic uses. The Necromantic Lich would be a good choice for the reborn Priest of Chemosh Lich. For the Spectre...I thought the Cursed Spirit would be a good mini, and the Dread Guards would be good Knights of Nereka. The red dragon (huge or Large) would be good for Chapter Six...and I'm not sure...but I thought the Harpy would be a good mini to use for red dragonspawn (whose name currently escapes me).

You know, last night when I was thinking about this post...I had much better ideas than how this is going. Maybe I need to do this with the things right in front of me.

Well...what about all of you? I suppose most of you are using real minis? (which are just too expensive for me...and time consuming at this juncture, unfortunatley)

I have a lot of old ral partha mini's that I use a lot. I used to buy a bunch of them and paint em and use them. I've started lately buying the prepainted ones from WoTC and actually am happy with them. I bought two boxes at first just to see what they were like and actually I like using them.

I have bought each set once..and today I bought Dragoneye and Giants of Legend twice. Was hoping I'd get at least one draconian, but luck is against me so far. I'll probably buy another pack or two of dragoneye.

I have a bunch of miniatures and a lot of the time I only have one miniature of a specific race or so. So usually I use other miniatures and just tell my PC's what they are. I'm hoping that wont be such a nessecity after I buy enough sets. The only thing that sucks is the new width of some of the miniatures. Now a horse or ogre is 4 squares instead of two and different stuff like that. I kind of just mix it up and figure some are bigger than others heh.

Right...but that's not a miniature thing...that's a new 3.5 edition space rule. (although when you look at the Huge miniatures...they're base is circular...it's simplify things if they made them squares...for the grid, anyway).

I too have really liked the new minis (surprisingly). I very much like the repaint of the Kapak (it's completely different than what they show on-line...not even the armor is the same color). It shouldn't take too many boxes to get at least one of each, I'd think. I have...9 boxes so far (the rest should maybe be waiting for me at home tonight)...and with those I've got 3 (maybe 4...can't remember) Baaz and 2 Kapaks. So they're fairly common.

I wish they'd make an Aurak, Sivak, and Bozak though so we could complete the set. For the time being, I'll be using the wyrmlings (probably) for dragonspawn or noble dracs. Well...that and harpies.

I've actually used the harpy for some dragonspawn because of the wings. It gives a little bit better visual I think.

Yea hopefully if I buy 2 more sets I'll at least get one draconian. Two would be nice. I'm really happy with the Giants of Legends pack. They have a lot of good miniatures in that set. The only thing I don't like is paying $16 for 9 minis when all the other packages are around $8-9 for 8 miniatures. But at least you get a Huge mini in there.

I'll probably buy more of Dragoneye and Giants than Archfiends, Harbringer, and the original sets.

I have bags of the official minis, un-restrained spending back from a time when I had money to spend. I don't have much trouble finding a mini I need to use for DL. Even some of the Forgoten Realms make good DL. I never thought to use the harpy as a dragonspawn though. I curse though cause I never got either the silver or red dragons out of Dragonspawn. I love the draconian minis and I need to go get the huge ones. My wife is looking for Lord Soth.
I need to win the lottery so I can buy more without a guily consence (sp).

The overwhelming majority of minis used by my group are from Reaper, who produce outstanding miniatures. Their website even has a basic search engine set up on it, allowing you to enter the features you're looking for (such as "elf ranger with bow"), and a large gallery.

We set aside a session every once in a while to paint our minis, which is a lot of fun and very good for stress relief! The players also get to have a sneak peek at the foes and monsters they might meet in the near future. I've had a painted mini of Sindra, the red dragonspawn from the Key of Destiny, even before I ran the Sylvan Key!

Cheers,
Cam

What'd you use for that, if you don't mind me askin'?

Had to do a little... modification. She's wearing more than the miniature would imply, now that I've finished with her.

I've got a good mixture of mini's. I've been playing DL since it first came out in the 80's. That's dating me. I'm playing in the WotL era. I've got the Heroes of the Lance box set along with the Red Dragon of Krynn and Huma and the silver dragon, and Last year at GenCon I got the Tahkisis Mini. I found it at Larry Elmore's table. These are pretty useful. Once I pulled out the Tahkisis mini and freaked out my players. But it was just a temple statue. It made things a little intense for them, hehe. I've also got alot of old Ral-Partha mini's.

Lately I've collected a number of the D&D mini's for certain things. But reaper has the best quality for mini's dollar for dollar, and I enjoy painting them.

Reaper miniatures-for the PCs-some WoTC Dungeons and Dragons miniatures, Army men, and a few MageKnight minis-although I try not to use them because the bases are too big for the battlegrid.

Personally...I have a few of the old Ral Partha DL minis...but they are mutch to valuable for me to let any of my players get their grubby hands on them.

I saw a few of these at a vintage comic book store. They were selling a whole box of them for like 2 bucks.

But lately I've been picking up a lot of the new WotC plastic minis. I don't feel it neccessary to represent every little thing in the game with an exact duplicate-or even anything close. I use whatever I have. If I was actually to go around trying to accurately portray each creature in every module I would be a poor guy. IMO it is not neccessary to have EVERY monster portrayed perfectly by an exact miniature. I use army men or whatever fits the squares they have to stand on.

Whew! No kidding. I feel almost nervous enough that I should delete my temp internet files, cookies, and scramble my nav sigs so that I don't get fired. LOL!
