Does anyone have any ideas on how Kalak could be dealt with (ei kept from destroying Tyr) without Rikus and the others killing him, and withough him becoming a dragon? In my campaign I want to preserve the original setting, without any of the PP stuff. I thought about just making it to where he was never going to do the advanced dragon thing, the ziggarat was just an ego thing and just not having the PP heros there at all. What do you think?

Maybe it just doesnt work?
And Kalak has to spend time trying to work out why.

If he doesnt become a full dragon is he going to go back to normal? or does he just become a 21st level dragon and have to wait to continue.
will he return tyr to what it was like before he misused its resources trying to become a dragon?
will he resume the iron trade so Urik doesnt attack him?
Are u going to have them (rikus and agis and sadira) attack him and fail? or do they not try at all?

far simpler to simply set your game say two hundred years before the events in the PP. This way you have all your Sorcerer-kings out and about... In fact, if you go back far enough you can even have Sielba or Kalid-ma still alive, or Daskinor sane.

However, if you are looking for an alternative to the events of the PP, simply don't have Tithian make an alliance with the Veilled Alliance. If you recall, they hid 3 amulets within the Ziggurat that would have interefered with the transformation spell with... hmmm... explosive results will do nicely.

This way, you get the Ziggurat ruined and useless, only some of the people in the stadium dead and Tithian punished for his failure (fed to tembos or something). Kalak has to restart the entire process, or may give it up for a century or two whilst he rebuilds his finances.

Build a game where he is planning to go ahead with it anyway but make the little obsidian pyramid that focusses the energies in the arena central to his plans. Without it he can't make the jump to full dragon. Rule that he had to go all the way to Kalidnay to find it or something to make it completely unique. Then have it smashed (by your PCs or whomever) in the period before the Prism Pentad. Kicks your game off with a bang and prevents the changes to the setting. Kalak also can have a long-term recurring goal of trying to recover/redevelop what was lost to him - sets him up as a villain nicely. Use abuse or refuse - just some idle thoughts

Have him complete the plan - but not go insane. The PC's start thier adventure in a nearly deserted city, ruled by a full-dragon, and are co-opted into raiding parties that kalak sends out the capture slaves to re-grow the population.

Do like in my campaign; the PC are the one who must stop or kill Kalak before he transform into a dragon.

I was also leaning towards this in my campaign. Have the PC's take the roles of Rikus, Neeva, Sadira, etc. but let them do what they want, and don't railroad them onto the same timeline as the Prism Pentad. Put the hooks out there, but don't force them into a certain course of action. Killing Kalak should be important as they will probaby die themselves if they don't do it, plus any PC in their right mind will want to adventure into the Forest Ridge to retrieve some cool artifacts.

I actually thought of having the PC's discover Kalaks plan as well as The Hero's. They also learn of Rajaat somehow and decide that Rajaats eventual release would be far worse than Kalaks reign in Tyr so they kill the Heros before they travel to the Halfling forest...

then i would still have to keep Kalak from becoming a 30th lvl... maybe have the pc inform Hamanu of the plan and have Hamanu attack Tyr.... and subdo Kalak... (maybe to do that the PC's would have to provide him with the Scourge....)

Do you think it would be possible that the sorcerer-kings would create a devise, maybe like two armbands, that prevent the metamorphisis?

Just some more ideas, what do you think?

PS thanks for all the replies!
