I just have a quick question. Is there an official world map of Greyhawk? and if so where can i find it? I did a search for previous post and came to understand because of the RPGA's Living Greyhawk, WOTC hasn't touched the idea of publishing much about GreyHawk. However i would still like to see a world map. Or would the world map from 2cd edtion still be good, or has things changed so much from 2e to 3.5e?

Thanks for your help

See if you can get a copy of the Living Greyhawk Gazetter. It came out just after the switch to 3E, so it's rather old and therefore not particularly easy to find, but it's got an enourmous foldout map of Greyhawk included.

For one thing , the LGG map is not enormous, nor does it cover in detail what the old first edition box set (or even From the Ashes) provided. As source material, however, the LGG is essential, but the REAL map will be released in four parts, in sequential issues of Dungeon magazine, starting with 116 or 117, I think. Now, that thing is going to be huge. You can find additional details about it on this board. The thread's still in the first few pages, I think.

For $10, you can get the D&D Gazzetteer, which is a scaled down Greyhawk gazetteer. It does have a world map included in it and provides a breakdown of the mian regions, cities, geography, etc. It's not nearly as expanded as the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer

Cannonfire dot com has lots of downloadable maps; some are spectacular, some are so-so.

Dragon magazine is supposed to be printing four Greyhawk maps and inserting them with the mag, just like they did with the Realms.

Abysslin's map is way cool. I love it and use it regularly.

Plus, I imported his map into photoshop and added a bunch of small towns, and other area's that weren';t included in his for completeness. Still a dang goo online map tho.

Canonfire has some real good ones if you look through them.

As stated, others are not so good.

You mentioned a WORLD map. If you mean a map of the entire world of Oerth, no, there is no "official" map as such.

If you mean a map of the Flanaess, the "known" civilized portion of Oerth, than the previous worthy posters have already given that information.

Happy gaming.

ProFantasy also has several Greyhawk maps for Campaign Mapper/Campaign Cartographer in their download library.

This link should go to an adaption of the Darlene map:
http://www.profantasy.com/library/default.asp?Keyword=greyhawk&PP=9&Start=1&Image=6

They also have Rauxes, the City of Greyhawk (with separate sewer map), Vale of the Mage, Ul-Bakuk (Bright Desert)

That's not entirely true...the LGG and D&D Gazetteer have small inset maps of the entire planet, though only the Flanaess is given the larger detail.

Hi all-
So someone adjusted Abysslin's map to suit their own needs. Can I have that for CanonFire!'s downloads section? Provided of course Abyss lets us use it as well?
Also soon, although I've been saying that for a while, I'll be having particular maps from the original A, D, S and other series maps uploaded to the site's downloads section. I can't recall which modules they are for, but Archimagnus (who is an offical CC2 map creator) created them and I can vouch that they are awesome. Someone (likely Abyss, since he too is a CF! editor) kick me in a couple weeks to get them up (I'm still unpacking boxes from the move and the PC and monitor were the first things).
I've also got some other maps that I've found around the 'net. Many of them (are part of my personal collection [and thus can't be shared]), but those that can are in the maps section of CanonFire!'s downloads. If you have a map and are the author or know who and how to contact them, that you think would make a good addition to the collection, please contact either me.

As I said earlier, I've altered his Abysslin's maps to suit my own Grehawk needs. However, the maps are still his "work." I don't want to trample on the goondess that he created.

PLUS, it's not that hard to go in an add your own stuff!

I may be wrong, not having those books in front of me at the moment, but I believe they only show the continent of Oerik, of which the Flanaess is the eastern portion, and some of Hepmanoland. I'll have to check that.

Here's a page of links to various Greyhawk maps. I think I got rid of most of the dead links, but let me know if there are any more.

Thanks for the links.

Well, there IS apparently an old TSR map of all of Oerth, but I don't know how "canon" it is. It's got "Nippon" and "Erypt" in it, which might cause some purists no end of groaning. It clearly predates 3e by a number of years.

There's no need to criticize the work of any contributor to the community, be they a CF! contributor or not. Everyone puts in the hard work and dedication to create this stuff, without compensation, and we shouldn't condemn their efforts.

If you want to suggest certain maps on CF! above others, why not just link to the ones you like?

That same map is the small map of the whole planet in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer...minus the goofy names, of course. And it only predated 3e by about 2 years or so (maybe less). It was from Dragon Annual 1, from about 1998 or '99.

This is not to be construed as a flame, only as a conversational response.

I think criticism as far as saying "some maps are so-so" or "not so good" is perfetly acceptable. It's an opinion that doesn't target anyone specifically. An individual reader of such a generic critique can investigate the maps on his or her own accord and determine which he or she likes or dislikes.

I think identifying specific maps would be more harmful than leaving it open to subjectivity.

I agree with Amaril. There are obviously maps on CF that far outshine even proffessional, WOTC maps IMO. Those are sooo top notch, while others are just... blah. I'm not picking on anybody in particular.

This is JUST the kind of map I've been looking for!
I'm in the process of designing a homebrew world...along the lines of Greyhawk. Wwriting I'm good at...history, politics, economics...campaign specific rules changes...the only thing that's my major stumbling block is mapping. I'm awful at it...or I'm using the wrong tools.
I've tried both AutoRealm and Campaign Cartographer and haven't had luck with either.

abysslin, what tool did you use to create your map? Any advice for this very poor mapmaker?
