I am currently writing some extra fan based content for the CRPG ToEE and would like some info on a particular event to stay as close as possible to canon and other published materials.

The Desportium of Magic is held on the last day (Freeday) of Growfest at the Great Citadel of Greyhawk:

Is this Great Citadel actually Castle Greyhawk?

Here it also states that The Desportium of Magic is an event where illusionists compete to cast the best illusion of the historical attack on the Grand Citadel:
http://www.the-starshadow.com/greyhawk_calendar.htm

What is this historical attack? As far as I know, if the Grand Citadel is Castle Greyhawk then it was built in 320 CY. I do know of an attack during 584 CY to destroy delegates from various regions at the end of Greyhawk Wars. Is this attack mentioned above? If that is so, I suppose it would follow that there was no Desportium of Magic prior to 584 CY.

I realize I may be completely off track here and hope to be corrected if so and to be pointed to the relevant materials (if available on the Internet).
Thank you in advance for any advice and comments.

Not at all, check the maps on this website. The Great Citadel is in the top NE corner of the city.

Many thanks for the link.
Did a little bit more reading myself and it appears I was quite mistaken. If possible I would also like to know whether that "historical attack" on the Great Citadel of Greyhawk was made before 579 CY where the ToEE adventure takes place (to make sure mentioning the Desportium is valid).
I've searched through a few annotated chronologies and a few editions of the Oerth Journal but couldn't find anything.

Thanks again for the help.

The humanoid attack took place around the year 43 CY (according to The Adventure Begins).

I can't point you to a source, sorry, but if memory serves, the humanoid attack was very early in the cities history, when it was more of a fort than a walled city. Since the current Citadel sits on the hill where the original fort was (I believe City of Greyhawk boxed set mentions there is one wall remaining from the old fort somewhere in the Citadel) that is where they host the competion.

At the time of the attack though, Greyhawk was a very small and insignificant town.

Thank you all for your responses. I have found them most helpful.
The completed dialogue mod: Burne's puzzles has been released at the Co8 forums (http://www.co8.org/forum), a modding site for the CRPG ToEE.

It would be great to have experienced DMs well versed in Greyhawk lore to help flesh out the storyline in the CRPG. Those who have played the game will know that Troika's implementation while remarkably true to the original PnP module is lacking in story and NPC character dialogue is rather bland.

If there are any interested parties, do drop by at Co8 forums. We can provide assistance with dialogue modding tools and technical issues while the board members here would provide better content in terms of dialogue. It would be a worthy undertaking and collaboration, IMHO, and also enable your DMing work to reach a more general audience of CRPG players.

The Great Citadel of Greyhawk City is sort of like city hall. Administration offices, watch barracks and training grounds, the town jail, etc.

For more info on this locale, and the rest of Greyhawk City, I strongly recommend getting a copy of either the City of Greyhawk boxed set or Greyhawk: the Adventure Begins.

They both have a lot of info on the city, but essentially cover the same ground, you really don't need both.

Try SVGames for the PDFs.
