Is there any information about characters becoming Gods or Demi-Gods in reference to Greyhawk? I am curious. Thanks

Are you asking about NPC that became (demi)gods or the actual process one has to follow to become one?

If it's the former, then this world certainly has more than its share. The most infamous of the lot being Iuz. Aside from the Old One, there are (in no particular order): Wastri, Chitza-Atlan, Rudd, Keptolo, Earth Dragon, Merikka, Al'Akbar, Zagyg, Ye'Cind, Vara, Stern Alia, Berna, Zuoken, Mayaheine (didn't come from this world), and Damaran + a whole batch of hero-gods and quasi-deities (Heward, Kyuss, etc...). You could list Vecna too even though he went from demigod to lesser god in but a few years.

Take a look at the LGJ issue #3 too for some less well-known entities.

If it's the latter, than apart from stating you need a divine sponsor, I am not aware of any hard rule on the subject specific to Greyhawk.

I am talking about the latter. I have a player who might be able to achieve demi-god status (in my home game of course.) Just looking to see if there are any rules already made. Making rules for ascension could be a task that puts me in over my head but I bet if I make some then everybody would want them... or not.

There were some minimal rules and guidelines in the 1e D&DG book, and the 3e version has some useful info as well. The old Dragon 79 article "Setting Saintly Standards" can also provide some useful info on the path from moral to quasi-deity/saintly levels, en route to demigodhood.

IMO, the best source on divine ascention is the info from the old OOP WotC The Primal Order line of sourcebooks. They're great, and well-worth picking up (in particular TPO itself, and the planar book called Chessboards).

One of the things I was going to do if ever my group gets to 20th-level (the mortal maximum in my games) and wanted to go on to godhood, was have the gods themselves challenge the party.

It came from the idea that there is a cosmic balance on Oerth and that with the pact between the gods to not directly interfere (not that they actually pay any attention to it), an up and coming godling could upset that balance, so they have a vested interest in seeing that such things don't happen very often.

I was going to have the party be challenged by something Oerth shattering. Something that with their mortal maximums, they simply couldn't face and thus had to seek some source of power like an artifact or something and then once found, that the artifact could only be wielded by a god.

Thus they strive to become gods to save the Oerth. The only way to do that is to strive for divine sponsorship. Thus they plead with whatever god they wish, maybe even different gods between them, to sponsor them on their quest to become a god. Once a sponsor is found, they then call a gathering on the greater gods.

I was then going to have all the Greater Gods gather, evil, good and neutral, and all of them require a test each of the PC's. Nerull's test would be interesting

Once passed, they would become 0th-rank hero-deities.
