I hadn't really thought about this until just now, but how does the Outlands work with metamagiced spells? Say I have a maximized fireball, does it get canceled in ring 6 or ring 3?

Hmm...tough one berk, that's a tough one. On one hand, since the spell takes up a higher slot it could be cancelled in ring 3. (I'm assuming farthest ring from spire first)

On the other hand, you could just make it so that once it passes ring 3, the Maximize metamagic is cancelled while the base spell works.

My best guess is what the person before me posted last. If you maximize a fireball, you have to use a 6th-level spell slot. Since you can't cast 6th-level magic Spireward of that ring, I would assume the same goes for anything requiring a 6th-level spell slot.

Ah, but a maximized fireball is effectively a 3rd level spell for everything except the slot it occupies (DC, ability (or lack thereof) to bypass globes of invulnerability, etc.). I think I can live with your compromise, Fringe. It strikes a good balance between the positions that the metamagic fails but the spell still works.
