Ok, here is the problem I am having. I am running a greyhawk campaign and I have had a few vampires. I understand that I can run vampires kinda however I want because there are so many different kinds in books, moveis, comics and other sources. My question specifically deals with Vampire destruction. I know daylight in D&D kills vampires. But if a vampire is staked and then taken outside he dies? Is sunlight the only true killer other than locking the staked body somewhere so it cannot be unstaked? I am just curious and I am open to home brewed rules and greyhawk specific and D&D specific rules. But if they are homebrewed I would like to know if they are homebrewed for greyhawk and a little bit of the reason why.

I have heard of the use of running water killing vampires, I also have heard the are repelled by mirrors or avoid mirrors, avoid crosses, avoid garlic, avoid crosses/holy symbols. Just curious how much of this is Fright Night and can be ignored and what is the truth. Thanks for all your help and if you want to get technical you can even seperate Vampires and Vampire Spawn as I know the Vampire gets a few stronger abilities. Thanks.

Err... truth?

None of it is true.

I usually rule that chopping the head off works a treat. I don't mind the Buffyesque style of 'dusting' either, by saying that a stake to the heart is an instant kill.
