Those of you who run 3.0 or 3.5 or even 3.AU versions of Birthright have probably come up with rules to handle the old Magician class. Share your thoughts, will you?)

My own 3.0 write-up bore a resemblance to a strange wizard/bard hybrid...

- Wizard attack bonus and saves
- Hit Die: d6
- Skill Points: 4 + Int modifier.
- Skill list: Bluff, Concentration, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (local), Pick Pockets, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Use Magic Device.
- Weapon & Armor Proficiencies: The magicain is not proficient in any armor, nor with shields. He is familiar with all simple weapons.
- Spells: The magician memorizes spells just as a wizard does. His primary spellcasting ability is Intelligence. His spells per level advance a bit faster than a bard, but slower than a wizard (topping out with 7th level spells, gained at 16th level: I haven't the time or patience to write out the full table here.)
- Spell List: The magician spell list went from levels 0-7. It included all the Divination and Illusion spells (and even a couple of Div/Ill spells which would be 8th level on the Wizard spell lists.) A few minor Transmutations and Enchantments were included. No Abjuration, Conjuration, Evocation or Necromancy - and no limited wish, as you probably guessed.
- Lesser Magic Mastery: Magicians spend more time 'perfecting' their limited field of magic. At 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th level, a Magician may choose one Divination or Illusion spell which he is capable of casting. That spell is thereafter treated as if affected by one of the following metamagic feats: Enlarge Spell, Extend Spell, Reach Spell, Silent Spell, Still Spell, or Subdual Substitution. (Essentially, any metamagic feat which raises the spell level by 0 or +1.)

DESIGN NOTE: Even I can't help noticing that this Magician is like a bard without his music or weapon/armor proficiencies. Slightly better spell access and even Lesser Magic Mastery (stolen from the Wu Jen, in case you had any doubts) just don't even the score for this guy. I wanted the Magician to be playable as a diplomat-caster, rather than relegated to the "NPC class" category like the Adept. Any suggestions?
