Just a quick question on the restriction of the Academy Sorcerer PrC to non-evil characters - I assume this only applies to the original ( now destroyed ) Academy of Sorcery and ideologically similar establishments founded by good-aligned graduates of same? Age of Mortals notes that various new academies have been founded on Ansalon, and one would expect them to have their own standards for entry. E.g, an Academy on Mithas or Kothas could be open to any non-Chaotic, non-Good student, and an Ergothian school could accept any student who swears an oath of allegiance to the Emperor, and ditch the alignment restriction entirely. Some schools might of course simply require the students to be able to pay for their tuition, and leave it at that. Is this appropriate for this class?

I would assume that since the class description already takes into account the destruction of the original academy and the founding of smaller institutions that the alignment restriction stands. However I am sure that there are underground learning centers for dark sorcerers which would make an interesting spin on this class......just tweak it so that the alignment restrictions are the opposite and add the flavor of a dark arcane institute for the final touches

The class is perfectly fine without the alignment restrictions in place. They're there because the Academy stands as the opposition to the Thorn Knights in the Age of Mortals, and likeminded individuals who are following the Academy's practices are usually good-aligned. However, it won't affect the class itself if you use it for neutral and/or evil sorcerers.

Thanks for the quick response, guys. My chief concern about the alignment restriction was that, to properly construct a SAGA - style Wild Sorcerer ( for good or evil PCs ), you need the extra abilites granted by the Academy Sorcerer PrC, since the core D&D class doesn't really fit with the description of DL sorcerers in the novels. Thus it seemed a bit unfair to deny evil sorcerers access to either this or a similar PrC, but if the alignment requirement is flexible, this is no longer a problem.
