Song Birds as Familiars

So, my wizard PC (Chaotic Good) would like to have a song bird as her familiar (specifically a Blue Jay). The problem is...as I was looking it up in the MM...I noticed there was no entry for a song bird. So I checked the MMII and the Bestiary of Krynn...nothin'.

Am I just missing it...or are there no stats for a song bird anywhere? I could probably use the stats for the raven and maybe decrease the STR, CON, and INT but raise the DEX and CHA (although Blue Jay's are annoying as hell...but pretty)

I agree with using the raven stats, but I dont know about decreasing them. Main reason would be that to have a familiar that is weaker than that would be kinda sad. But, as I said, I agree, he raven seems a good one to use, and if you arent too picky about having it exact then you could just leave it at that....and if you are I also agree with how you would adjust the stats.

I'd just use the same stats as the raven, maybe have the familiar grant +3 bonus on diplomacy or perform checks (either/or).

I was just wondering about the base intelligences (above all else) because a basic raven can be taught how to talk. (along with parrot like and cockatoo and cockatiel birds...I don't know if I spelled those right or not). It seems like there was one kind of owl, too. But anyway...I know a raven can, and a blue jay can't...so if nothing else, perhaps I should lower the base INT to at least 1?

Maybe it's just easiest to leave it alone.

I'd say leave it as the raven's stats. If the player really gets into, and learns to like the familiar, then they can look into the 'awaken familiar' or whatever the spell is. The one that basically grants bonuses to the familiar, and with enough eventual levels, allows them to cast spells, etc. Speaking is a side effect of this magical 'evolution'. I think it was in the wizard supplementary book IIRC, but I could be mistaken. I remember seeing it somewhere...
