I own the Karameikos gazetteer and K:KOA boxed set, but the information is pretty sparse about the Iron Ring. I know B10 provides additional details, but I was wondering how useful is it? Does it provide any background and organizational info.? I found two articles at the Vaults: http://pandius.com/ironring.html http://pandius.com/irnring2.html This is pretty well written, and I could definitely incorporate it into my campaign (though I'm not sure I agree with a dwarf being head of the Iron Ring). My question is how much of these descriptions come from canon sources and how much is home brewed? Thanks guys and gals! :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Agathokles Date : 09-19-07 07:48 AM Thread Title : Re: B10- Night's Dark Terror Mosty homebrewed. What is known is that the iron ring has the reaver and master ranks, probably with two tiers of masters. All known masters are wizards. Conditions for joining, leadership, connections with other cults and organizations are left to the DM. It is also a great adventure module. Many rank it among the best ever written for Mystara. It should be mentioned that some of the details in that book are a bit different from Gaz1/K:KoA. Population seems alot more sparse and settlements like Threshold appear as much smaller in B10. That's easy to fix though. :) IMC the Iron Ring has strong connections to Thyatis, especially the Von Hendriks family and other houses in Hattias. Thyatis is one of the main markets for Iron Ring slaves, though they also sell captives as Indentured Servants to Darokin. I ran my group through it in the early part of the year and we really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it if you are able to get your hands on one. I got mine from ebay but it wasn't very cheap (believe it was in the high $30 US, IIRC). B-10 has mention of hound, reaver, and master rankings within the Iron Ring and provides you with some characters of various classes in the organization. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : kengar Date : 09-19-07 10:29 AM Thread Title : Re: B10- Night's Dark Terror If you a fan of -and/or plan on running a game in- the GDK, B10 is well worth picking up. If you don't want to go the eBay route, the PDF from Paizo is pretty decent and much cheaper. It lacks the counters for the Siege, but the maps and all are there. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 09-19-07 12:49 PM Thread Title : Re: B10- Night's Dark Terror An issue of Dragon Magazine also had some additional info on the Iron Ring and their organization (#206). It doesn't go into extensive detail, but IIRC that is the place where it is first noted that the IR operates as individual cells (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covert_cell) rather than as a large hierarchical organization. Between those tidbits in that article, Gaz1, and B10, I think you can get a pretty good idea of how the IR operates. The other articles on the Vaults that you noted are pretty good too. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Belathauzer Date : 09-19-07 01:39 PM Thread Title : Re: B10- Night's Dark Terror If you a fan of -and/or plan on running a game in- the GDK, B10 is well worth picking up. Actually, the scan from Paizo now includes the counter sheet as well, which makes the $4 USD spend quite worthwhile. I just purchased it recently and it looks pretty good. I can't wait to run my players through it... :plotting: :evillaugh -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : kengar Date : 09-19-07 04:15 PM Thread Title : Re: B10- Night's Dark Terror Actually, the scan from Paizo now includes the counter sheet as well, which makes the $4 USD spend quite worthwhile. My B10 game fizzled before the end, but we played out the siege. How I laughed as the spell casters burned through most of their spells before they even got into the farmstead (at the gate). :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Phoenixmcl Date : 10-05-07 01:20 PM Thread Title : Re: B10- Night's Dark Terror For more info in the Iron ring Kingdom of Karameikos has an adventure that starts in threshold with members of the iron ring. At the end the PCs make enemies with the Iron Ring's members. Also I think DDA1 Eye of Traladar has them in the adventure as well. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Iramus Date : 10-06-07 06:44 PM Thread Title : Re: B10- Night's Dark Terror All known masters are wizards. If so I must have missed it when I did my write up of The Iron Ring. It does, though it is an argumentum ex silentio, so not as convincing as it might be. The only known Iron Ring Masters are Karllag and Golthar, and both are magic users. All other Iron Ring NPC from B10 are Reavers. It's a nice read anyway, and there is a nicely written sequence on the Iron Ring. http://www.pandius.com/mchronic.html -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:27 AM.
