thanks! But i think it doesn't speak of knight of Neraka with disgust, i will fix it by adding some sentence here and there, but if someone wrote a text it would be much appreciated!

He doesnt speak of the KoN with disgust....the Herald simply told it like it was.....which does not paint a very pretty picture of the KoN at all.

The entire section with The Herald telling those corny tales could have been left out IMO. All he basically did was cash a check that his behind could not handle. My gaming group now thinks of The Herald as a big mouth weakling and were laughing hysterically when he got a mud hole stomped in his behind by the knights.

yeah. i decided to have my party working for Claudia and the LoS instead. It seemed less cheesy by far.

/never been a big fan of the 'crazy old man in an inn tells you about some magic prophecy' stuff

LoL. Yeah they were not beat for the old wind bag at all. As a matter of fact at one time they wanted to kill him since they saw him as being completely useless.

I revamped that encounter, maing the herald less of a windbag and more of an entertaining presence.......It also helped that one of my player's characters asked him to tell of the War of Souls........which of course made his tale seem more spontaneous.....when I roleplayed him I made him tell much more of the elves plight, and also more of the fallen goddess's tale......in my game it was the story of the goddess that enticed the KoN to rage.....as I made them more the honorable type of Dark Knight.......(miss those......sure do)

You had to revamp it otherwise The Herald's time in the spotlight was shall we say weak ? Seriously how could someone as weak as The Herald obviously is replace Astinus ?

I agree with your feelings on the herald.....I would very much like to see him change and evolve, otherwise he is a stale cliche character.

I don't know but sometimes it seems that the heads behind DL change things just for the sake of change. The Herald totally has no purpose and as you said is a stale character. One of the best changes that ever occurred in DL was the death of Takhisis but then again now we are left with Mina; yet another stale character.

Anyway, to stick with the subject (sort of) at hand, it seems several people do not like the premise behind the Herald. But, that may be because there's very little premise to begin with. He was explained well enough to make you go "wtf!?" but not really explained well enough to make him a true interesting enigma, and I think that's a shame...because the character had such potential. I don't know if the Herald and Astinus and their relationship to each other and Gilean will ever be fully or even satisfactorily explained (because I thought if that were the case, it would have been explained in the DLCS). But Astinus is still gone, and the Herald still has no memories.

I don't know...to me it seems like a logical leap to make that the Herald is the wandering Astinus...but the reason no one recognizes him is because there is no one alive who knew what Astinus looked like in his youth before being chosen by Gilean (if we go with one of the more popular and interesting ideas on who Astinus is). But that begs the question of why hasn't Gilean reclaimed him? Is there something wrong with him? Perhaps he's not Astinus...but if he's not, why hasn't Astinus returned with the Gods?

I think there's so much potential for an interesting story, but because of the simple fact that people just seem to despise the Herald (for reasons unknown to me), the story will never be told...and it will always be this disturbing untold 5th Age story (like the Sage).

So...what is the reason for the dislike of the Herald? Is it because of the lack of background and knowledge on him...or is it something else entirely? Is it because a lot of people just don't like bards in general? Or is it maybe because some people still have animosity towards Harold Johnson? ;)

I think the Herald has a bigger part to play at some point. I'm sure it will become clearer in future material.

don't get me wrong, brim. I LOVE the herald as he was back in SAGA, but i really really didnt like the way he was written in the DLCS. So i just took him out of my campaign.

Ah, I see. I still hope to one day get some more info on him and his connection to Astinus, though.

I suppose the "crazy old man at the inn telling you what to do" is a bit cliche. I must say, though, I do like the way W&H handled it in Chronicles crazy old man at the inn tries to get you arrested.

Hopefully next weekend my group will play through the "Sylvan Key" (and perhaps a little bit of the Key of Destiny). The Herald will be a good way for me to bring them up to speed on what has happened in the last year, and convince them to go to Pegrin's camp. They're new enough to the game and genre that I don't think it will seem contrived to them. Plus...I'll get to have the Herald add a bit more to the minotaur about "you shouldn't be here...I don't remember you from my dream...where's the other elf?" I don't know how the reincarnation thing is going to work or play itself out in the end...but I think that's what we've decided to go with. (for those that read my question earlier about a minotaur and elf marriage).
