I guess I'll jump off the bridge also...

All of my projects are, of course, map related.

Current Mapping Projects:

1) City-State of Tyr: This one is at 15%. It is not my highest priority because so many maps exist of Tyr already.

2) City-State of Kalidnay: At 20%. I may have this one done in a few days if I am lucky. It is intended to represent the city prior to it's fall, but can also be used for ruins aswell.

3) The Dead Lands: At 20%. I am switching between this one and others as I get information.

4) City-State of Urik: At 10%. I need to do research for this one. I haven't had time to sift through all the novels yet.

5) Estuary of the Forked Tongue: At 50%. This is a close-up of the Estuary. I am working on this one as I get time between other maps and when I get fed-up with a map I am working on.

Future Mapping Projects:
The Road of Fire
The Dragon's Crown Mountains
City-State of Eldaarich
City-State of Kurn
City-State of New Kurn
City-State of Balic

Although maps exist elsewhere, I cannot wait for the map of Tyr, as most of the versions I have are not the greatest quality. (Mostly, I work from the PDF version of the City State of Tyr, which is OK, but not great for reproducing at larger sizes)

I know exactly what you mean. Seven years ago, when I joined the Navy, I donated alot of my stuff to charity, including my Dark Sun books. Last year I purchased all of the ESD versions. I had such a hard time reading the maps that I decided I would make my own. That is the reason I now have DarkSunRising.info! Don't worry though, I'll get around to Tyr soon enough.

Well, I'm probably 3/4 of the way to completing my website. I'm still nowhere near being able to put it online, however.

Project Threads", I wonder if anyone else has?"

With close to 150 monster drawings done, I've still got 50 or so to go. Unfortunately, real life is calling and I'm moving. Once that's done and over with, I'll quite literally go back to the drawing board.

"Project Idea"

Ok. I will never get around to doing this (because I make maps) but I would love to see it. So someone needs to get busy on it for me! :P

I want someone to remake The Last Sea region to reflect the "feel" of Dark Sun. Get rid of the hippie druids and happy-go-lucky dolphins. Add Sahuagin who worship the Squark and work with the Athasian Sharks. Have them in constant battle with the Lizardmen and Druids. It would make more sence if The Mind lords hid the Lizardmen from Oronis if they needed them as their underwater forces than just because they wanted to protect them out of the kindness of their hearts. In a more realistic idea of what should have happened when the Champion came knocking was that the Mind Lords would have said, "Sure! Take them! We don't want them hanging around here!" just to ensure the preservation of their city.
Oh well. That was my rant for the week.

Umm.... I personally *like* the Last Sea region as it is. It's bizarre, different than the rest of Athas, but isn't what someone would expect a "fantasy" setting to be like still. I'd hardly call the people happy-go-lucky, except for on the surface. There's a level of dread and worry that's below it, which makes for the real fun.

Ok! I want ideas. Anyone who thinks of a region, city, site, etc. that people would like to see go ahead and post it here. I have some projects that I have to work on for the next couple of weeks but will be free after that. The maps people want to see the most, I'll try to get to first.

Well, personally, I'd love to see the Estuary of the Forked Tongue stuff, but you're already working on that ;)

You've covered a lot of ground, really, so it's hard to say what more I personally would really like. Maybe a map of Altaruk? It's a major enough trading town to be a good "home base" for a campaign, or at least for a story arc, but I don't recall there being a map of it anywhere.(of course, I'm at work, and thinking of it, I know someone is going to come and tell me that it's in one of the books that I have in PDF format, but don't have with me here :P)

Good work, by the way. The Tyr map is excellent! I'll have to buy you a beer if you're ever in my neck of the woods.

Random aside, if you want to see my fledgeling campaign site that uses your maps, it's at http://darksun.implausible.net . The campaign has been running for some time, though not much campaign info is up yet, as I've been working on information for the players. I'll be putting up more info on the actual adventure side eventually, but just thought you might like to know that some of us are using your maps directly with our players ;) (the Tablelands map is edited, you'll note, to remove things the players shouldn't know about)

I haven't checked lately, but each of the city-states should have a map. I'd say the villages that are listed in the DS Campaign Setting, and the Revised box, should also be done (like north & south Ledopolis). New Giustenal, umm... the main Pterran villages in the Hinterlands, the Aarakocra ness near Kurn... Various locations around the Last Sea, and maybe a few of the towns & cities from the Tohr Kreen Empire.

umm how about Urik, Balic, and Ur-Draxa... i thought that it would be cool to have a map of the area in "Shattered Lands" From Draj to the three waste villages, the lava fields, the salt flats, the springs, the badlands with the wyrm skelly and all that cool stuff. what do you think?

I actually do have the beginnings of Urik already started and a whole l4 pages or so of official material given to me by one of our community, so ya'll can expet that map within the month. (I have other projects to finish first). As far as the Shattered Lands stuff, I have never played that game nor do I have any info about it, so if someone wants to supply me the info that would be great. Celik is also a good idea. I didn't know it was to be released with Lost Cities though.

this site has the game, a walk through, some patches, and some screen shots. The walk through has a shoddy layout text type map, that shows what areas are which and which ones you can move between.

Add my vote for Urik and Balic as well (I'd like to see your versions of all the city-states done in the style of the new Tyr map, really, now that the major regional maps are done). Altaruk makes a good choice as well, and there's a fair bit of material to work from there as well...

I'd like to see your versions of all the city-states done in the style of the new Tyr map

I think what I am going to do is make all of the city-states in my original style (which I call my cuniform maps because thats what the buildings remind me of) mainly because they are easy and quick for me to make. Then, as I have the time, I'll remake them like I did the Tyr map. It's not that the newer style maps are hard or anything, once I figured out how to do it it was very simple, It's just incredibly tedious. I estimate that the Tyr map took me 25-30 hours to actually make and my cuniform style maps take me 10 at most. So, I'll do my basic maps first and then go back and make the bigger and better maps as I can!

"Information Request"

This is your chance to help shape the future of Athas!

I am requesting any mapping information that any individual has specifically on the Pristine Tower and its suroundings. This can be anything from a simple drawing to a list of notes taken from the original material or even from your own material. I want to use this information for a future mapping project of the tower. All information should be in accordance with "Canon Materials" and should not negate it.

Alternately, if anyone has information, basic maps, lists, etc. that they can send me on any site or city relating to Athas please do so. Such items help speed up my mapping process by limiting the amount of research I have to do and allowing me to focus on mapping.

Submissions should be sent to me by email either through the boards or through my website.

Any individual whose information is used will be included in the credits of any map that they helped to detail.

Thanks!

Do you have the info on it from Dregoth Ascending? There's actually quite a bit of info on the pristone tower and it's surroundings there. If not, you might be able to prod someone for that information.

Actually I do have limited access to this publication. And I have already received some input from interested individuals about the Tower. Thanks to them! I am currently remaking Raam in the style of my Tyr map for the eventual release of Dregoth Ascending. It won't be exactly like my first map of Raam but close. I have to tweak it a little for DA. And I am making alot of progress on the new map. I'll estimate that I am at 40% (20 hours so far). It's lookin' good!

"Project Completion"

Due to a minor setback on my new City-State of Raam map, my computer crashed resulting in the loss of two days work, I took time out to finish this mostly completed project. The Estuary of the Forked Tongue doesn't have much new material on it and is really just a blowup of the region. It does, however, show the Baza Islands which are to small to be on any of my other maps. Enjoy!

If it is of any help here is my current map of Balic. I only complete areas as the campaign continues so there are lots of gaps. The basic layout comes from a collection of sources, some cannon some not

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danlewis/balic.jpg

Balic info

Veiled Alliance P32

Megaleneon – White Palace that sits on the bluff in the centre of the city
Imperial olive and orange groves - I assume these are outside the city
Agora – The main market holding the merchant emporiums
Elven Market surrounds agora
Various amphitheatres around city
Shining Bridges – marble bridges across silt filled ravines around Agora
Nauipides villa in wheat fields outside city gates

Dune trader P35

Wavir live in a huge palace in Balic. Their area is between the White Palace and the docks

Complete Gladiators Handbook P56

Criterion is beneath the fortified bluff that holds the white palace. A slate plaza surrounds in all directions. It is made of marble. The outbuilding holding gladiators and slaves is next to bluff ( Ihave set this to the east of the bluff)

Wanderers Journal P68

Eleven market and agora sit at base of white palace bluff (I have set this to the south east of the bluff)

Will and the Way P11

Cerebran is psionic university on outskirts of Balic

This is a great web site for more unofficial info on Balic. I based my map on Scotts map

I hope some of this is of use
