Hi Guys and Gals,
Silly Question I'm sure. I've been invited to a table this weekend to play living Greyhawk, but what is it? I have the core books and quite a few splatbooks, what is relevant? Is there any special rules that would be useful to know or is it simlply a world based around the core rules? Magic Rich or poor? etc.

I would like to have some sort of idea of what charachters to build before I get there...

Greyhawk is one of the original campaign settings for D&D. It's set in the world of Oerth on the continent of Flanaess.

If you want a low cost introduction, I suggest you pick up the 32-page D&D Gazetteer for $10 at your local store or online. This book is a primer to Greyhawk and presents the Greyhawk Calendar, basic history, geographic locations and regional demographics. It also presents a few extra deities than covered in the Player's Handbook.

The more expansive Living Greyhawk Gazetteer has a lot more content with details of even more Greyhawk gods, deeper history, and richer information for various kingdoms, cities, and other regions. This book is currently out of print but can still be found in stores or online. It costs more than twice as much, too.

Personally, I suggest you pick up the cheaper D&D Gazetteer, as it will give you the basics for right now. Keep in mind, too, that neither book is anything similar to the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting or Eberron Campaign Setting books.

Actually, it depends a bit on what exactly you'll be playing.

If you're playing in the Greyhawk campaign of a friend, then Amaril's advice is sound. If, on the other hand, you're going to a convention to play in a Living Greyhawk tournament, then head here and download the Campaign Sourcebook. It should answer all your questions.

Have a good time!

You can also talk about the living campaign on the Living Greyhawk Forums, ofcourse.
