I decided to make a new thread to detail my player's insanity.

So our second night in Key of Destiny was a slow one. I guess I should do a character re-cap real quick:

Gunther, Human Cleric, future Knight of Solamnia

Khirsah, Human Monk, has been sent into the world to learn patience. His master told him to seek out Mayhew Lightfinger.

Makara, Human Ranger/Mage, future Arcane Archer-type (made a custom prestige class because the reg. Arcane Archer sucks)

Duncan Stormhammer, Dwarf Fighter

Mayhew Lightfinger, Kender "handler"

Anhalel, Elf Wizard, refugee from Silvanesti

Soren, Human Fighter

the party will also include an Afflicted Kender working towards Arcane Trickster at some point.

So tonight started with the gang having just wrapped up with Pegrin and his crew from the Key of Quinari mini-adventure. They put all the bodies in one of the larger pit traps and headed back towards Pashin.

They camped outside Pashin figuring it wouldn't be cool to just walk into town carrying tons of loot in the middle of the night (they brought back all the tents and Pegrin's large chest).

They walk into town in the morning and head for the Wounded Crow (where they had stayed the night, never making the connection that it was a sort of brothel). Their plan is to talk to the Herald about the music box and see if that's the Key he was ranting about. It's very early in the morning, so they decide to wait for some folks to wake up. The monk decides to go cook something while they wait, since nobody appears to be in the kitchen, and manages to fail his cooking horribly, and subsequently fail his fortitude save when he eats it. So he hurls.

They deposit the loot in one of their rooms and leave Soren, Anhalel, and Maraka to guard. The rest head out to see if they can find out any news and if there is a reward for Pegrin.

They wind up at the Five Dragon's where they eat a hearty breakfast (the Kender has taken a liking to the Dwarf and is sort of mimicking him at this point).

They eventually get to the Mayor's gate and the guard there offers them a reward for taking down Pegrin's gang. They pro-offer Pegrin's head in a sack for proof.

On the way back the party is assaulted by the random encounter Rat Swarm! Oh No! They dispatch it handily, but the dwarf smells like the sewer now.

They decide to head to the Bazaar and sell the swords and armor from their fight with Pegrin's gang. They meet the various folks there, and the Kender gets bored and runs off in search of interesting things. Khirsah tries to follow to make sure he stays out of trouble, but quickly gets lost.

The rest of the gang runs around selling stuff until they finally all "mysteriously" regroup on the way to Halthorne the Wise's tent. There they are told to "seek out the elves" which really confuses them. Then Halthorne reverts to being a more normal gnome.

On the way back to town, we have the encounter with the Legion of Steel recruit. Hoo boy.

So Jacob comes crashing out of the building as it explodes. He asks for help saying he's just destroyed a Knight of Neraka's building. The Lawful Nuetral Monk decides that this man is an arsonist and grapples him to the ground. A crowd begins to form.

Jacob is offering money, anything, and begging the party not to let the Nerakans get him. This has no effect on Khirsah, the monk. They sense motive to know he's lying about blowing up the building. At this point they spot Jacob's sons as they attempt to bull rush the monk off their dad.

Gunther moves to block them, realizes they are just kids, and instead tries to grab them. He succeeds with one and has him held.

Khirsah attempts to pin Jacob, holding him still. Anhalel, Duncan, and Mayhew stand back a little. Makara and Soren attempt the grab the remaining kid.

Jacob is yelling to let go of the kids and help him get to the Five Dragons Inn.

His other son joins the grapple, attempting to free his dad. The horns blast indicating that the Knights of Neraka will be here soon. The crowd begins to disperse. Mayhew taunts Khirsah to try to get him to leave this place. Anhalel and Duncan are getting scarse, Gunther and Soren decide to take the other kid to the Five Dragons and see what's up. Khirsah is still grappling with Jacob and his son, Makara joins in to try to break it up.

Jacob gets free and begins chasing Gunther (who is holding the other kid), Khirsah grabs the grappling kid and runs after them.

The kid Gunther is holding breaks free, Khirsah runs by Jacob, carrying one of his sons, who he has knocked unconcious with subdual damage, and tells him to meet him at the Wounded Crow.

Knights are getting closer, horns are loud. Jacob whispers to the remaining son to find Klaudia, and chases after Khirsah.

Gunther, Mayhew, and Soren chase the kid, the rest head to the Wounded Crow.

At the Wounded Crow, Makara takes the kid and hides in a back corner table. Khirsah confronts Jacob at the door, which ends with Jacob drawing his sword on Khirsah, who knocks him unconcious with subdual damage. The barkeep makes them take it outside. They find some water and wake up Jacob. Anhalel follows to make sure this doesn't get out of hand, she is clearly concerned. Khirsah tells him to explain himself, at this point Jacob is only thinking of his son and demands his return. Khirsah insists that the son is safe, to which Jacob responds his son is not safe in the hands of Nerakan agents! Then he recognizes Anhalel for an Elf and exclaims that she can't really be with HIM (the monk). She calms him down a little and gets him to tell a little of his story, that he joined the Legion of Steel, and that he's not sure why the building blew up. He was investing it because it was supposed to be of some importance to the Knights of Neraka.

Meanwhile...

Gunther, Soren, and Mayhew lose track of the kid in the city. But they did hear the mention of Klaudia and quickly surmise that he's heading for Omar's Oddities. They get there a few steps behind and hear someone in chain mail leaving in a hurry.

And that's where we had to call it a night because I had some minor family crisis to deal with.

So a really simple encounter ended up in insanity. The night was really slow with all the loot selling and they didn't end up getting much in the way of XP, hopefully next session will pick up more.

The whole group was pretty much annoyed at the monk, but they weren't sure what to do about him. It's damn funny. Right now, they can salvage a relationship with the Legion of Steel if they play their cards right, but they could be heading for trouble.

Fun. And I was so looking forward to pulling out the encounter with Aranol Nightblade.
