I bought dungeon 114 yesterday. I've just skimed through it but it looks pretty good(except for the multiple references to Greyhawk; that really bugs me). Can't wait to run it! What does everyone else think?

Haven't picked it up yet. I am looking forward to it, as I am running a pirate adventure, and it would be a perfect place for a treasure map to point.

So, I finally found the time to finish the articles. Pretty good module over all. I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone who might be going through it, but for those who remember the original it takes place on the southern tip of the island, south of Tanaroa. No Rakasta or Phanatons make an appearance. All the action takes place in and around the village so there is no real exploration of the island. Combining 'Torrents of Dread' and the original 'Isle of Dread' with the new information in the article on exploring the island would make for a pretty exciting mini-campaign. One thing I did notice though; they changed the names of two of the clans for some reason. The original were-elk,hawk,tiger and sea turtle. Now they're-ape,tiger,boar and sea turtle. Not sure if there is a rationale or if it was just change for the sake of change. Minor point I know, but something I noticed. Anyway, its still a good read. I'd recommend picking it up. (just ignore all the Greyhawk stuff-that still bugs me...)

I agree. The Greyhawk stuff really bugged me as well, but the adventure overall was very good. Something else that bugged me was the name change of the archipeligo. Thanaclan? Why was that necessary?

There were other things that I liked about the adventure as well. The idea of a kopru city beneath the iland where the creatures plot against their ancient enemies (the devil fish) was very intriguing. This brought a flood of other ideas into my head. Perhaps the kopru are the architects behind Thyatian colonization of the island (and the Hinterlands). Perhaps gaining a foothold in the Thyatian empire (or Karameikos) is the first step in the kopru's rise to power. Perhaps this could be the start of a great war between the devil fish and subjigated triton and merrow tribes that draws the surface races into the politics of Underocean.

Anyone else have any other ideas about how to use the kopru (and the new adventure from dungeon?

I liked the map, and much of the background (though could leave the Greyhawk-specific stuff), and additional development. It differs much from some of the things I've used on the Isle of Dread IMC, but I'm sure I'll find ways to make use of everything somehow (even if not on IMC's Isle of Dread, then another isle). I thought it was very well done, though natch would have prefered it be on Mystara.

It could be seen as a trans-dimensional isle, though. . .

There was indeed a rationale. I overheard Erik and James talking about just this thing (okay, so I would eavesdrop whenever they started talking about "Torrents of Dread" or simply used the word "dread" in a conversation). ;)
The original Isle of Dread is set in an archipeligo down in the tropics of the Known World. Now, while there might be the occasional hawk that lives in the tropics of our own planet, there generally aren't elk. Elk being more of a cooler-climate animal, that naming reference seemed more than a little out of place in the tropics. So the good gents at Dungeon decided to make the clans climate-consistant and gave them the names as they appear in issue #114.
So there you go. For the sake of verisimilitude were the names changed.

That rationale does make sense. I never actually looked at it that way.
Just over-sensitive I guess. I suppose it's back to therapy...
